Sorry I haven't been around for a while. I had my daughter on Sepember 28th and she has colic, so I've have my hands full!
She's being baptised at the end of the month and I am have never thrown a party like this before nor been to one. I need help with the menu. There will be about 50 people and we're having it at a hall next door to our house (literally 15 feet away from our door). It doesn't have to be fancy and I would prefer simple and reasonably priced. Since it's close, I can cook something hot. Thanks, Ladies!
Also, where did you buy your childrens baptism outfit?

Re: Baptism Party Menu?
My first thought is a baked pasta of some sort....lasagna; ziti, rigatoni. You could also do a roaster pan of meatballs and yummy buns for meatball sandwiches. Add in a tossed salad and a fruit or veggie tray and you're done.
If you want to add something else or go in a different direction you could always do Fried Chickent (Walmarts is actually really good.) or a spiral ham...also good for sandwiches or an entree.
If you're looking for straight catering, I know Moe's caters relatively inexpensively. Or Armstrongs,
Don't worry about what is "typical" or what everyone else does. Do what your comfortable with and what sounds yummy to you. It's only one meal. And be gracious with yourself. You have a newborn...and a fussy one at that! Let people help you and accept offers to provide a covered dish!
Congrats!
Congrats on the birth of your daughter!
I agree with Dena, with that many people, my first thought was a tray of baked ziti or something like that....easy and you can prep it ahead of time then warm it that day! You could also do meatballs in the crockpot, then provide buns and cheese for people to make sandwiches. You can get big bags of lettuce from SAm's Club to add a salad. Definitely take help from people, and enjoy the baptism!
Oh as far as outfits, I have boys and our baptisms were very small affairs (about 10 people at each), so I just put them in white shirts with khaki pants. But you could try Once Upon a Child for a traditional baptism outfit, or a gown of some sort. I've also noticed displays of them at JCPenney, but that was in the spring, not sure if that was a seasonal kind of thing?

I agree with the pp regarding food - they gave some great ideas! (we just invited everyone to Cici's Pizza for lunch after - unfortunately I think they're all closed now:(
Outfit - we got her gown from the Macy's website. They frequently have sales and we got it for a good price.
Congrats on your daughter!
I think the other suggestions of going easy (aka ziti or WalMart chicken) are excellent. You have a new baby, so you don't want to stress yourself! And definitely take family up on offers to bring something. We also do the veggie tray from Sam's - so you don't have to cut up veggies for a tray.
I'm not Catholic so we didn't have a gown for either of my kids - the older one wore what my brother was baptized in. (It was a white one piece outfit that was kind of a sweater material). The younger one wore a white onesie/pants outfit with a white sweater that I found at Macy's. It's hard to find something that's nice and white that isn't a traditional gown type thing.
Congratulations on the birth of your daughter!
I agree with everyone else about the food choices. Those are all relatively easy and crowd pleasers.
In re: to the gown, we bought my son's baptism outfit at Baby Depot in Burlington Coat Factory - they have a nice selection and good prices.
Best wishes!
Also, I just ordered a sailor suit for G from this site (www.everythingnicekids.com) but they have a site dedicated only to christening outfits.
Their costumer service and shipping time was amazing. I highly recommend!

Congratulations!
And I'm just going to ditto everyone else as well on the food and stores. I always see outfits at JCP and Burlington. I had my sons' outfit made from the train of my wedding dress; if you have the time and/or inclination, that's always an option too!
Good luck!
My three sons!
