Birthday dinner planned but....
Tonight I am having a birthday dinner at a habatchi resturatant for me since my birthday was on Wednesday. I planned it a few weeks ago and invited about 13 of my friends. However, only about 4 people can come. This has been a crazy week with the storm and all so I can't blame people for not coming. It just makes me a little sad.
Oh and ya know what stinks, my DH isn't coming. He has to work. He was certain that he would be working day shift today but they put him on for 3-11 and there is no one he can switch with. He said he'd call out, but I told him no way. We need the money too bad. Plus, he celebrated with me on my actual birthday and when we were away last weekend.
I'm sure I'll have fun even with only 4 of my friends. Habatchi is always fun.

Sadly, I know how you feel. About a year ago, I started a rule. If you haven't shown up at something that I invited you to in X months, I stopped inviting. I find I get a lot more people showing up out of the number of people I invite. I'm also a lot happier as I feel like people actually want to be with us versus wondering why nobody shows up.
Amazingly, I also get a lot of people who ask "Why didn't I get invited to ____?". Some people just like being invited to things.
I think that seems like a good rule Mark!
Tara- I hope that you still have fun! You can just think of it as a friends night since H can't go along!
I also agree - great rule, Mark. I guess first I need a big list of friends to invite though.
Tara, I love Hibachi! If I lived closer I would totally go with you. But I think you'll have a great time with your friends even if not all of them are going to be there.

Thanks everyone. I had another friend cancel so there will only be 3 of my friends, well 2, since one is a husband of my friend. I kinda want to cancel, especially since I just found out that I have to work at 6:30 tomorrow morning at the hotel gift shop, but I won't cancel. That's not fair to the two friends who want to see me and celebrate my birthday. Plus, it will be nice to see them too.

Thank you. It's a lot worse an half hour to an hour north of me. We were actually very lucky compared to Central Jersey. I feel so bad for the people of Manoloking who lost their homes. About 100 homes are gone and so is the highway.
