Re: mexico?? now?

  • It's a big country. Which part are you referring to?

And see siggy. 11th visit in 10 years if that will give you any hint at my answer.

Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

  • Tourist towns are fine. We went two years ago to Cancun and are heading back next year. Mo qualms about it.

  • It depends where you go and what you do.  If you get wasted and wander off alone into some dodgy areas, that's probably not a great idea but I wouldn't do that in the states either.  DH and I went to Cabo two years ago and it was fine (and the most beautiful place I've ever visited.)
  • I am going to the Mayan in a few weeks for SILs wedding and H and I are not planning on leaving the resort. SIL wanted to plan a party night into Cancun but my FIL has put an end to that.. I think it doesn't matter where you go, your in a strange country take precauitions don't put yourself in a bad situaiton and odds are you'll be fine. Check out Secrets Mamona I believe it is - I've heard amazing things about them for HMs, we stayed at Secrets Jamaica for 2 weeks and resort was outstanding as well..

why? cancun is quite safe-that is as long as you dont go off alone into neighborhoods you dont know looking for trouble. like anywhere else on the planet. the MR is fine.

"you're" not 'your'. anyway-there is no issue with going to playa del carmen, tulum, cancun, puerto morelos etc.. they dont have any issues there. leaving the resort doesn't put you in a bad situation.

i encourage you to do your research before you jump to conclusions.

  • We were just in the Riveria Maya in May and were completely fine. We also left the resort one day for a full day excursion with EdVentures which I would highly recommend. I would go back and spend more time off the resort; take the same precautions as you would in the United States (don't go to sketchy areas, only take marked taxis, etc).

  • I would rather be in the Riviera Maya than where I live in  ATL, GA which has just been named the 8th most dangerous city in the US.

But then perhaps your stepdad knows something we don't know... does he mean ALL of Mexico or just the border areas?

  • H and I went to Cabo for our HM last year and had no issues.  Visiting the major tourist areas of Mexico is just like visiting anywhere else, be smart and you likely won't have any problems.

  • Mexico is a big country. For work Tijuana, Txcala, Mexico City, I do have to call in for some sort of backup since there is crime.  But we have been to Mexico every year, Cancun, Riveria, Playa, Cozumel, Cabo, to name a few, which are all tourist areas and never had an issue.  We always have a great time.

  • No issues here. We've gone three of the past four summers
