A kid related toy survey:

The christmas post intrigued me. We don't have a lot of toys and I was curious about others. We are using birthday/Christmas as an excuse to buy developmentally correct new toys. We have about ten small cars, musical instruments, duplo set, a couple puzzles and building blocks and a couple odds and ends. And books!! About 7 out and more he can grab in his room.

How many toys do you have?

Does your child stay home or go to daycare so they have supplemental toys?

How often do you buy toys?

When your child outgrows do you keep out toy, put away or donate/discard?

Re: A kid related toy survey:

  • How many toys do you have? We have a ton of toys.  A lot of which from last year he never even touched.  I'd like to either box them up (with the intent of saving them for no. 2) or donate them.  We haven't done the transition yet.

Does your child stay home or go to daycare so they have supplemental toys? My kiddo goes to daycare, but I don't we supplement.  Most of what we have are gifts.

How often do you buy toys? Rarely, if at all.  Almost all have been gifts.

When your child outgrows do you keep out toy, put away or donate/discard? See first answer.  We have to work on transitioning.  Not looking forward to it.

  • How many toys do you have?  A ridiculous amount.  Her room is full, she has most of our living room covered and like half of our family room.

Does your child stay home or go to daycare so they have supplemental toys? She is in daycare full time.

How often do you buy toys? I pick up small stuff when I see a good deal.  We have had lots of gifts and I did the Fisher Price house party a few months ago and got some big things there.

When your child outgrows do you keep out toy, put away or donate/discard? I will probably pack some up and recycle some to my sister who just had a baby.  I'm thinking we will eventually have a second one, so I'm hoping to have plenty of stuff packed away when it needs to roll back out.

  • Sorry I wasn't clear about supplemental toys. I meant if they go to daycare they have a whole space of differnet then home toys you didn't have to buy etc.
  • We dont have a ton of toys - I hate clutter.  She has a lot of books, wooden puzzles, grocery set, tea set, singing alphabet dinosaur, drawing toy, kid laptop toy, walk behind push toy, and blocks.

FT daycare - Ive only seen developmental toys (similar to home, just a different style), but they do different activities than she gets at home: music, arts/crafts, outside toys/play.  She gets to do different things there than at home (I think this is what you were getting at)

I dont think I've bought any - they were gifts.

When she outgrows, they go in a tub in the basement for kid 2.  I usually keep one big toy out at a time, for example, her interactive table came out when the exersaucer went away.  I couldnt stand my livingroom being taken over.  Outside of the big item, the rest fit into a small ottoman.  I sound like a no fun mom, sheesh.

  • We have a ridiculous amount of toys- every single fisher price bus/tractor/dump truck/you name it on the market, balls, cars, blocks, stacking cups- are all out right now.  We have an entire rubbermaid container in our bedroom of toys he got for his birthday that we haven't even introduced yet because he barely plays with the toys he has now.

Personally, we have only purchased him about five toys-  we got him a Lighting McQueen toy when he first started showing interest in pushing things around,  he has a  Mater push and ride, a chatter telephone, and an activity cube.  All except the Lighting McQueen toy was purchased second hand via Craigslist or consignment sales.  I don't think we've spent more the $50 on toys.

His daycare has a good mix of developmental toys and just regular trucks and whatnot to push around.  I don't really push the developmental toys at home because he is in daycare pretty much full time and I think he gets his learning from there.  I just want him to come home and have fun.  And snuggle with me.  Lots of snuggles.

I have put a limit on the amount of toys that are in the living room right now:  a new toy comes out if 1 or 2 gets put away.  Like I said, he has an entire rubbermaid container of toys that haven't even been opened.  As of right now I am packing up all the old toys for a potential sequel.  If we don't have a second child, I will do a mass donation/yard sale.

  • How many toys do you have? I don't think we have that many, but he has a kitchen and it has components in there

Does your child stay home or go to daycare so they have supplemental toys? he goes to pre-school, Waldorf preschool at that. so they don't have a lot of toys there and the ones they do have are imagination based.

How often do you buy toys? not very often, helps that he was born in July, I actually only put one toy on his Xmas list this year, the rest are garden tools, some clothes, we did just get him an activity table and that has been a GREAT addition and he seems to be playing with his trains, and cars more now that he's not on the floor.

When your child outgrows do you keep out toy, put away or donate/discard? When he stops playing with something or gets something new then a toy goes to the "Hillary bag". Hillary is my friend's daughter and he loves giving things to her, right now I have about 10 wooden puzzles and holder and she's excited to get them.

  • How many toys do you have? He has enough. Not too many or not too little.

Does your child stay home or go to daycare so they have supplemental toys? Daycare.

How often do you buy toys? Mainly Christmas. I never buy for him throughout the year. If I buy something, i save it for his b'day or Christmas. He doesn't need it till then. Even his b'day it was a table and chair set so not really a toy. he still has enough for now.

When your child outgrows do you keep out toy, put away or donate/discard? I keep it out till I know he outgrows it. I have a few toys that are sort of babyish like the sorter but I still use it to work with him as far as shapes and colors. If there is someway I think he will use it for his imagination, I'll keep it out. otherwise, we are done with kids, it gets donated. I really do hold onto toys for awhile though till I know for sure he is done with them.

  • I'm not qualified to take your survey but I think M would love a kitchen and I think he'd be adorable in a little hipster-chef outfit.

Edit: Who am I kidding? That kid is adorable in everything you put him him. When I have a kid, I'd like you to be their stylist.
