Scheduled C-Section at Magee...

Hello Ladies,

Has anyone had a scheduled C-seciton at Magee?  All my instructions from the hospital say that they only allow 1 person in the room during pre-op and after they allow 2 at a time in the room after you get back to recovery.  I have a family member that wants to come when I go in the hospital for pre-op and I don't feel it is necessary because they will just be waiting by themselves since DH will be with me.  Am I totally wrong?  I have just been telling people to come after the baby is born.

Can anyone share their expericene with me if they had a scheduled C-Section?

TIA

Re: Scheduled C-Section at Magee...

  • I had one almost 2 years ago. Same rules applied. My hubby was in pre-op with me and in the actual OR with me. After I was taken to post-op, my hubby left and got our daughter who was 2 at the time to meet her little sister. We made family wait until after I went up into a postpartum room.

I was in post-op for a few hours, until I was able to move my legs. I was really out of it afterwards, so it's probably best family/friends wait to see the baby until after you're able to move.

     Good Luck!

  • Both of mine were scheduled at Magee.  During pre-op you are in a shared space (separated by curtains) and there really isn't room for more than one person.  I did want to see my mom during that time, so DH went and got her from the waiting room and they swapped places for those few minutes.  After the surgery, they did allow more than two people into the recovery area, I felt pretty good after both c-sections, so I didn't mind people being there.  That being said, I think the hospital may be more strict in enforcing those rules now.

As for visitors, it depends on what you want and are more comfortable with.  If you'd like that person to be there, and they don't mind knowing they could be doing a lot of waiting on their own, then go for it.  If not, then make another arrangement that you're comfortable with.  I preferred knowing my parents were there, and knew they were excited to be there even if it was just in a waiting room for most of the time.  On the flip side, lot of people don't want anyone there until after the baby is born (or not even until they get home from the hospital).  Think about what you want and what you'd be most comfortable with and go from there (even if it means telling someone who wants to be there, that they have to wait until another time).

I had great experiences with both of my c-sections at Magee. GL!

  • I had one. They are pretty efficient. I think we were supposed to get there at 8am and my son was born at 9:19, so there really wasn't much Pre-op time at all. They walk you back to a room with partitions and you change, they do your vitals and put the. IV in and then you walk to OR, sit on the table and they do the spinal block.  Then they start the c-section.  Post op you have a slightly larger curtained off space where you stay until you can move your legs enough to move onto a gurney to be moved upstairs.  I had my mom meet us in that post op room and she was with us there, but I told all other family to meet us in our real room upstairs.   I had a great experience- no pain and it went smoothly.

    Good luck!
