City Mini GT vs. City Elite

DH and I spent 3 hours on Saturday in BBB looking at strollers and carseats.  My head is still spinning from all of the options!  The sales guy was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

Anyways, we have narrowed our stroller selection down to 2- the City Mini GT and the City Elite.  I thought both had a similar smooth ride.  DH liked the Elite better because it had a few more features.  I thought the Elite felt bigger behind my petite 5 foot frame, but that could be in my head also.  I haven't seen much talk on this board about either of these strollers, and just wanted to see if any of you have them or tried them and are willing to share your thoughts.

Most of our use will be on the streets of South Philly.  My mom, who is also petite like me, will also be using it when she has LO three days a week to take him for walks I am sure.

Weight here is not an issue.  The regular City Mini, which is the lightest, was heavy to me when folded, so I can't be worried about the weight.   My mom will probably fold it once LO is back inside the house or have my dad or brother do it for her (she does not drive).

TIA!

Re: City Mini GT vs. City Elite

  • Our neighbors actually old neighbors in south Philly had the elite they liked it. But it was before the gt came out so not sure if that would have changed their mind.
  • I have the GT and I love it, but I was between the original and the GT.  I would say the extra features in the Elite are negligible unless you really want the bigger tires.  And I bought a handlebar console for $10 at BRU.

How does the Elite fold up in comparison to the GT?  To me, that would be a big deciding factor.

  • I had an Elite and went that route because I got it used for the same cost as the Mini.  A plus for me was the adjustable handle.  I dont know if the GT has that, but otherwise, like pp, I dont know of many other differences other than the tires.  The Elite was a one hand fold, but it was heavy.  I think if I had to do it again, I would have went for the mini just to save the weight.  I think you are right to go with the bigger tires being in the city though.

    Not sure this was helpful.

It does have an adjustable handle.

  • Thanks ladies!  Tracy, did you find the lack of side vents and the velcro closure on the canopy were a big deal?  One of the other couples who were looking at the same two strollers were making a big deal out of that and the fact that the velcro closures might wake up the baby when sleeping.  Do you even use those flaps to check on the baby?

  • I don't think they are a big deal at all.  I use the velcro flaps to check on DD during our walks and she hasn't woken up because of it.  There's too much other noise when I'm out and about that velcro is the least of my worries.  I don't think side vents matter...I mean, the stroller is moving so you get airflow from that - and there is a mesh area when you recline the seat that you have the option to cover up.

I will say I really enjoy being able to use the GT on long walks without the infant seat.  I just recline the seat all the way down and I bought a head support thingy since DD still is so young.  It's a much smoother ride than my snap 'n go (which I use mostly for errands).  She seems to love it.
