It's Snowing!

Hard to believe and it's only November.  I think it is going to be a long winter.  Our heat is already on, and I keep turning it up.

  • Just ran out at lunch to pick up something for dinner and it is nasty out there. yuck!

Our heat went on over the weekend, the nursery has crap windows and gets no warmth, can't have cold baby tootsies!

  • It just started snowing in Malvern - I'm not prepared for this crap already.  I am also thinking I probably should have bundled DD up a little more today.  Oops.
  • We just got a new HE heater in April.  It replaced a 1953 gravity furnace which worked like baseboard heat but through ducts and air vents, so it didn't force air heat out, but rather, the vents just got warm.  Yes, it wasn't energy efficient, but that heat was hot!  But for the fact that the heater had a big gaping hole in it, we would not have replaced it.  I am not liking this new heater at all, but it could be I never had forced air heat before and am not used to it.  I am not sure if I should call the installer to check it and if they will think I am nuts.  I am going to buy air conditioner covers and see if that helps a bit with the two window units we left in (DH has a bad back and I don't want him touching them).  All of our windows and doors were repalced in 2010, so they shouldn't be an issue.

As an aside, this office is freezing!

  • Drat!!  I have errands after work.  This should be a pleasure!

PS - my heat has been on since we got power back from that biitch Sandy.

Interesting.  Not a flake has fallen in West Chester.  But I just went out to get the mail and damn, it's cold!

  • It started and then stopped and is now going at it again here in Bala. I hate snow.

Am I the only one that's had my heat on since sometime in September?

Do you have a small weather station to see the humidity level in your house?  With forced air heat, it is helpful to have some moisture in the air, as it allows for the heat to be more efficient. A humidity level around 30-35% is good.  We had a whole-house humidifier installed when we upgraded our forced air heater in the old house. Made for a much more comfortable winter indoors.

I will definetly look into this- thanks! It just feels like the air being blown out is kind of cold, and I pushed it up to 70.  I keep it on 66 when no one is there during the week and 68 at night because DH gets hot.

  • turned our heat on too. although we need to bleed some of the radiators. and get a couple of radiator covers still because someone's little paws cannot be kept away.

Nope, we've had ours on for ages as well. I hate the cold and a giant house in the middle of nowhere gets chilly!! Not looking forward to the mid winter heating bills!
