Has anyone else been lurking on TB?

I know some of you are TTC or at least thinking about it. Have you ventured over to TB at all?

I've just been lurking and reading posts on the TTGP board and I'm really kind of confused about one thing...it seems as though if someone is relatively new (under 20 posts or something) and they get a BFP and post about it, all of the other posters tell them to go share their news on the 1st Trimester board instead of the TTGP one....I'm lurking for that exact reason, if I do get pregnant fairly quickly I wouldn't want to do an intro post and then the next month do a BFP post and get all the snarky comments about it.

I think I'll stick with sharing any info with all of you instead of ever posting on TB!

I know some of you do post on TB, so I'm wondering how your experience has been so far over there...

Re: Has anyone else been lurking on TB?

  • I haven't lurked much on TB..  I do lurk some on the 'Getting Pregnant' board here on TN, though.  It seems to be some people who have had trouble TTC, and others who are there for a short while, and everyone gets along for the most part.

There is also a GP Moms board, so after the BFP, they can go there to still chat with their GP ladies, and post baby stuff, so the TTTC people don't have to see it if they don't want to!

Still though. Just lurking. I'm a wimp.

  • I have lurked on there quite a bit but honestly I'm not sure I feel brave enough to post. Mostly because they use lots of terms and some of these ladies seem to know anything and everything about getting pregnant. I would really rather stay here where I feel most comfortable. I think once I am pregnant I will switch over there but until then I will stay right here.

And there is my "fear".  Once all of you TTC'ers do C you'll head over there and leave poor lonely, no baby mama, me chatting to myself!  How am I going to know WFD if you all are over there?  hehehehe

HAHA okay I didn't mean switch for good. I will never leave you ladies for good! Just I might actually go over and post on TB but never would I leave my May 12 ladies. That is actually a really scary thought I see why you panicked now sorry for that.

  • I just want to say:  PLEASE DON'T LEAVE US FOR TB!  That would make me sad :(

I don't have any interest in TB and will be staying here even when I am TTC/ do C.

OP- I am no help. Sorry!  :-/

  • I do lurk over there quite a bit.. and have found pretty much the same observation as you!  When someone pops in and out with HEY i'm pregnant.. they kinda get their $hit in a twist. However, at the same time I kind of understand as they have formed quite the tight knit group with some of them, and it can kinda feel like random's are rubbing it in.

I can't figure out if i'm going to post over there or not when i start TTC. I like you ladies and the lurking over there has given me a lot of information ie. i'm going to start temping at the start of my next cycle since i'm now off hormonal birth control.

Sometimes the snark and drama is pretty freaking entertaining, and i think it's mainly because i have NOTHING to do with it..

I'll stick around here as long as there's someone to talk to! And i'm sure i'll let you all know if/when hubby and I start TTC. We aren't going to tell anyone, but that's going to be HARD.. so i'll probably talk to you ladies.

GOOD!!!!  Don't leave me!! Stick out tongue

  • I havnt checked out the ttgp boards (since im not TTGP or TTC) but I do follow the adoption board out of intrest...it seems like a LOT of people on TB really feel like its thier only place to vent or get support about infertility (have you looked at some of thier siggys with like long lists of all the things they have tried, all the times the ovulate, other things I don't even understand etc etc) or having a harder time, so I can see why they would feel like crap when someone new has an easy time getting preggo and theres people who have been on there a long time and continue to struggle and all know and support eachother. Its still lame to make people feel like they are unwelcomed because of something they can't control (being new to the board and/or having a easier time getting preg.)

I agree though...that you TTC and Preggo ladies better not leave us here by ourselves!

  • I lurk but I don't know what a lot of TB acronyms are, like BFP or the stuff in people's siggys.

Either way, I'll definitely stick with you ladies because I'll still want to know WFD and you all can be honest without be snarky! Besides H & I won't be TTC anytime soon!

  • I'm relatively active on TTGP.  It's good to lurk, that way you learn what to say and what not to say.

The reason people snark at newbs posting about their BFP (big fat positive) is because it's pretty much the equivalent of walking into a room of strangers and hollerin' "HEY EVERYONE!  I GOT KNOCKED UP!" but having multiple people do it a day.  If no one knows you, they most likely don't care.  If you participate in conversation, introduce yourself, post in the TWW & WTO threads then people start to recognize you and you won't get flamed for sharing your good news.

There's a link for the acronyms here most of them are on there, there's a few that aren't, but you can usually figure them out pretty easily, and if you ask, they'll tell you.

I really enjoy the TTGP board because it's really active and once you're there long enough to get a feel for it the people are super funny and we all have a good time :)

  • I guess it would just be more understandable if this was the "trying to pregnant after a loss" or any of those type of boards where people are struggling with TTC.

I also agree that if someone's first post is OMG got a BFP!!! then ya I'd be annoyed but it seems like some of the people automatically being told to go to the 1at tri boards aren't posting for the first time, but they're not one of the regs....

I'm going to continue to lurk....for now anyway!

  • I post on TB but on my month board and sometimes on the third trimester board.  I could see how it could be intimidating over there. I definitely didn't start posting until I was about 5 months along.

  • After I got pregnant, I found my birth month board and posted there a few times before I saw a post for a FB group.  I decided to join the FB group and I'm fairly active on it.  But, I still love posting here and seeing what's going on with all of you!

  • I'll probably look for a FB group once I get KU, I'd like to get to know more local women (just moved here, don't know any), and my local board on TB is DEAD.  :(

How do you find local boards like that?  I only FB from my phone, so I'm not familiar with all the stuff you can do on FB on the computer.

  • Sometimes I do lurk over there- not often though. Usually on the over 35 TTGP one simply b/c I'm trying to learn a bit more about the lingo.

**Comeongetdown** I totally hear you. In Colorado I have a couple girl friends I knew before I moved here but our friends have all been married for years and most have kids over 10 or in high school.

If you ever want to meet up maybe we could make it happen ;-)
