3-D movies

I've never been to a theater to see a 3D movie, so this probably seems like a silly question, but if you don't put on the glasses, does the movie look weird, or like it always would?

I want to take Jake to see Wreck it Ralph, but starting next week it's only playing in 3D at the theater by my house.  I'm not sure that he'll wear the glasses, so I'm trying to figure out if we should risk going there or just drive to the Southside instead.

Also, has anyone seen this movie yet?  it's getting good reviews, I think he'd like it.

Re: 3-D movies

  • We haven't seen this movie, but I took Mason to see the Lion King in 3-D last year.  He kept his glasses on for maybe 2 seconds, and watched the entire movie without them - he didn't seem to notice.  I also watched most of the movie without the glasses and was fine. It was noticeably a little fuzzy/blurry, but nothing major - probably what it was like watching movies during pre-HD times, haha!
  • Ditto, Lanna insisted on seeing Paranorman in 3D and kept her glasses on for like 10 min. She claimed she could see it fine. I know our 3D on our home TV just looks a little blurry w/out the glasses.
  • Ditto the others.... we took DD to see Nemo.... For the oldermovies redone I think it is a waste as old Graphic Designer co-worker explained the movie wasn't first created in 3D and isn't the same as one created from the start in 3D. Just a marketing ploy. I did think the previews before Nemo made to be in 3D were great!!
  • EJ (and Amelia) sat through Nemo 3-D with their glasses on the whole time, no issues. Aside from the whole sitting still in the same seat for all that time, which tends to be a challenge for my sweet little monster under just about every circumstance. I hyped up the glasses though.
  • I've heard great reviews for Wreck it Ralph so far, but they've all been from adults without kids. I'm looking forward to seeing it myself. Have fun!

  • Thanks!  I think I'll just take him there & see if he'll leave the glasses on, it's easier than driving to SS.

  • Steve took Jackson to see it over the weekend & both liked it.  He's pretty good about keeping the glasses on now, but wasn't when I took him to see cars2.  It definitely looks different without the glasses on but it doesn't seem like the kids care. Have fun!!

  • It is a little off but not nearly as bad as it was with old school blue and red 3D. DH and I went and saw The Avengers in 3D and I was initially nervous because when I tried to watch 3d movies growing up the made me motion sick. Lol!  But I didn't have a problem with the 3d. But I would have been able to enjoy the movie withou glasses.

  • Personally I hate 3D and had hoped I could just sit through a movie without wearing the glasses but it was hard to see and made me nauseous!

Dd will not wear 3D glasses. The only time we have done 3D with her was Disney and she wouldn't wear them even for the short shows.

We took dd to see wreck it Ralph last weekend. Dh and I enjoyed it but dd not so much. But she is definitely into more Girly/ princess stuff. And honestly some parts were scary for her and dd is usually ok with scary parts.
