Has anyone started? Do you have a list? What are you buying for your husband? How about parents? The parents are my hardest ones, because honestly they want for nothing at this point. Hoping to get a lot more done this week end.
Re: Holiday Shopping
I was thinking about trying to bang out most of it prior to Thanksgiving, which would have been a first for me. However, the sales are just too good to pass up in December.
We have a pollyanna for the adults in both my family and my husband's, so that's pretty easy.
I'll order clothing for the neices & nephews from online, mostly Old Navy and Macys.
My husband, I'll probably wait until closer to Christmas like I normally do, and grab him a couple of outfits and maybe a new wallet. All he really wears is Lacoste, so I should be able to get him taken care of in one trip.
The hubs and I always get one anther a pair of slippers, I know it's super lame, but I get excited each year to see what he finds for me. I bought his last week and went rogue by not getting the fleece lined, but flannel lined instead. I know, I'm such a rebel. I'll probably also get him a wallet, and something fun that he won't buy for himself. He just started mentioning a Star Wars game, but he doesn't have time to play games. So I was thinking some running gear.
I'm having trouble what to get my kid. He has everything he needs, and I don't want him to have a whole lot of stuff, so I'm trying to figure that out.
I need to start thinking about this soon because I'm not going to have patience to Christmas shop when I'm 37 weeks pregnant (or I may even have a baby by then...who knows).
I should start making a list.
For DS, we're not going too crazy. I'm planning to go to the SEPTA gift shop at some point to get him a SEPTA bus, El train, trolley, and whatever else they have. I think he'd love it.
I got 1/2 a gift, that's it.
DH and I are trying to stick to a limit this year since we are going to Ireland in March. I'll just get him the usual necessaties. I have a wish list on amazon that he can chose from.
As for my parents, as usual I have no clue. Maybe a gc to a restaurant. They need nothing.
Pollyannas with my brothers, so that just leaves the nieces and nephews.
M has the trolley and is getting the EL for Xmas he loves that damn trolley. Ododdles and please touch also carry them.
Gosh I have no clue.
My parents are hard - last year we got them an iPad, which was way out of the budget but I knew they'd love it. And they do. This year we will probably do some kid-related gifts and maybe a gc to a restaurant.
My MIL requested no gifts other than a photo book of the past year. We will do that and get her something else too.
We usually do a pollyanna with my sibs, but no one has mentioned it yet. I usually organize it but I don't really feel like it this year, haha. Totally pulling the baby card.
I have no clue what DH and I will do in terms of gifts. Last year we talked about not doing gifts. We did gifts anyway. This year I'm going to suggest we do stockings for each other, an ornament and put the rest towards our vacation fund.
We probably won't get DD a lot. I know our families will go overboard and I'm kinda dreading it - I know I sound spoiled. She just has so much stuff already, especially clothes. My sister keeps asking to buy her random things and I keep saying no - she will not be able to wear everything she already owns before growing out of it.
We have a ton of people to buy for. It sucks. I am going to bust out the nieces and nephew soon they are the fun ones.
As for P we set a 50-100 limit and buy each other gifts. Last year I got him a Kleen kanteen and beer of the month club for three months.
We don't buy M much during the year so this is his spoil season plus the playroom/family room will be complete. His big gift is going to be a balance bike. We will pick up a couple cars for his new parking garage he is getting from my parents. I would like to get him some plastic animals he really likes dinosaurs at the moment. and maybe another set of duplos. And a couple of books to replace the ones that I had to discard from over love/ripping apart.
I started, just picking up a little each week to spread out costs. I am done my goddaughter and brother in law so far and two out of three god parent gifts.
For the kids, I know what I am getting them for the most part, I got T3 and T2's big gifts done, just want to get some small things to open and stocking stuffers. T1 is getting a laptop so we are hoping to score a good price on Black Friday. He isnt getting much else and I feel bad about it but that is a high price gift so he is going to have to suck it up, his gift will more than triple what I spend on the other two and that makes me feel bad too. Cant win!
DH and I are supposedly not exchanging since we leave for Disney beginning of January but I still may get him some shirts or new jeans since he lost weight, he really does need stuff so it will get bought regardless if it is a xmas gift or not.
the parentals are the hardest, no clue for either set. I was set on getting MIL a kindle since shes a reader then she mentioned that she doesnt really like them so.... on to plan b
Jonathan Dean 4.5.08
Anna Capri 5.4.11
I've actually gotten a good head start, which I'm pumped about.
DH and I aren't exchanging, because we decided to get a couch for our living room instead. I'm THRILLED about this. I'll probably just get him some stocking stuffers.
For my mom, I'm having a handmade quilted tree skirt made. DH's grandmother makes them, and they're beautiful. She also requested an ornament with DS's name and the year on it -- she wants to collect one for each grandkid. So I ordered that, which will be a gift "from DS."
MIL requested a bunch of Rachael Ray cooking utensils. Some of the stuff in her online store is pretty cool, if you have people on your list who like to cook.
FIL is getting a home brewing kit, I think.
My brother is getting a straight razor kit from me and my sister (that shiit is expensive!!).
No idea about my dad or sister.
Can you tell me more about the parking garage? we have a TON of cars and I think it's something Oliver would love. Thanks for the info about the trolleys too...if they don't have the full collection at the SEPTA shop, I'll try PTM. But I do get 15% off at the SEPTA gift shop w/ my SEPTA monthly pass which is a plus!
15% is always awesome. The parkIng garage is by plan toys, I had a similar fischer price one had a kid you can send the cars down the ramps and can park themetc. it's on amazon and fluctuates in price big time. It goes from 40-70.
Also with my fear of a snowy year milo is getting a child size snow
Shovel. He has to chip in after all.
Try QVC also for the Rachael Ray stuff. Their Today's Special Value is actually a Rachael Ray pot set. I know because they send me an e-mail every day.
Ugh I really need to get cracking on gifts. Not sure what DH and I will be doing for each other. His BD is December 23 and mine is January 31 which always makes things interesting.
For my parents, I think we are going to chip in and buy them a new TV. They are low tech, so it doesn't have to be a fancy name, have a lot of bells and whistles or be 100 inches.
For my new niece who will be here by then, I will probably get her a First Christmas ornament and maybe some books.
For my MIL, we just give her money. We bought her something one year and she made a comment about rather having the money, so I told DH that's what we're going to do for now on. So, that's what we've been doing the past few years.
For my FIL and his SO, we usually get them a restaurant gift certificate and a bottle of wine, which seems to go over well with them every year.
We do not exchange with the rest of DH's family. Long story.
My sister and I are probably going to go in halves to buy my brother a digital camera so he can take pictures of his new daughter with something other than his cell phone.
I have no idea what I am getting my sister yet.
