Two days in London- must see's/do's??
DH is going to England for a business trip, I'm thinking about tagging along. Would get there early on a Weds and leave early on a Sunday. Has to be in Manchester, about 160 miles away, for a day and a half for business.
Flying into London, so would have Weds there, Thursday and Friday in Manchester, Fri night in London and all day Saturday, early flight Sunday.
What would you do in London and what to do in Manchester?
Would be my first ever trip to London
TIA
Re: Two days in London- must see's/do's??
I agree that some of the museums take forever to go through. So, unless you are HUGE museum people, you may want to pick a smaller one (like the Portrait Gallery, which only took us an hour to two to get through) and then focus on just seeing some of the other sights on a walking tour. We did the Tower of London and that was neat and I also enjoyed browsing stores along Regent, Oxford, and Bond, and of course Harrod's. A lot of the other things we did, like the British Museum and afternoon tea, take up some time and at least with the tea, require a reservation and things a bit more planned out. We did see a lot of people at tea who went onto a show, so you may want to consider a tea/show combo one evening!

I would do a hop-on/hop-off bus tour. This way it brings you to each of the major attractions, and the buses run all day long. Here are the main attractions I would try to fit in.
1. Westminster Abby
2. London Eye
3. Tower of London
4. Buckingham Palace
Definitely grab some fish n chips for lunch down by the pier right outside Tower of London. They come in a paper cone, and are so good!
Hyde park is also a great place to just roam through if you want something more relaxing.
MANCHESTER
1. If you are without the hubby during the day while he is at a business meeting, hit up some shopping. The name brand/high end stores are on King Street. If you want more of a "local wares" or quirky items, Northern Quarter is the place to go to. Both areas are pretty safe to go to alone.
2. Beetham Tour is a fun experience. Go to the 23rd floor to have a great view of the city, and I recommend to go at dusk. It's beautiful!
3. A good cultural experience is going to Manchester Stadium where they play European football. Be sure to do the tour. I'm not a "soccer" fan, but it was neat to see how big it is in Europe, and learn more about it.
4. Go to Abode for dinner. It's a restaurant in a basement, and has Michelin stars. Definitely try their "Toad in a Hole." Also, their prices are descent.
Okay, I think that's it. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I lived in the UK for a summer, and traveled all over the continent.

I agree with this!!! Take the boat to the Tower of London and you will see some neat things as well. We got a really good tour guide, so it was really fun. FYI-the fish n chips near the London Eye are a skip!!!! Find a pub and have them there (cause you can't go to London without having fish and chips!!!!)
