Did you guys see this.. I saw it made national news?
Here are more unbelievable photos.
That is about 1.5 miles from us... They haven't figured out the cause yet, said it could be awhile. We didn't hear it (and I'm not sure how we didn't... we must've been in a deep, deep sleep). But DH's sister called him (she's about a block away) and said she heard a loud noise and it shook her house. He thought she said her power was out (but she didn't.. he was half asleep). I just heard him say "It was probably just a transformer that blew... no, you're not gonna die" She said everyone was outside in her neighborhood, thinking a plane crashed, or they were being bombed.
They were talking to people in that neighborhood on the news and on the radio on my drive into work this morning. I was tearing up! They said they had no idea what was going on and everyone grabbed their kids and just ran out of their homes. Most still aren't allowed back.
One couple died. The home that exploded was empty. But it leveled the house next to it, where the couple was. Say an extra prayer today for all those affected by this.

I was going to mention you in that post - knowing that you moved to that area. It's just horrible!

Wow. That is incredible damage. If they determine the cause, will you post it? I'd be interested in hearing what could cause something like this. So sad that the couple next door died.
Have to wonder if the homeowners of the house that caused it were doing any shady business in their house or if it was something they could never avoid like a gas leak or something.
Glad you're all okay.
I have a co-worker that lives about a mile away from the explosion. He was downtown when it happened, and said he'd driven past the area just an hour before. Another friend heard it from 35 minutes away.
We're on the northside of Indy, so we didn't hear it, but I heard about "the boom" on facebook shortly after it happened and before anyone knew what happened.
I can't imagine how scared all those people must have been. I feel horrible that so many people have been displaced from their home and just before Thanksgiving.
Athlete and Ky, have you heard anything about any donations being set up for the families?
I know, it's so incredibly sad. It's just gut-wrenching seeing all the photos from the neighborhood. There are 5 homes are either totally demolished or will be demolished. I just heard about how the family of the couple the didn't survive the explosion found out. Made me want to cry :-(
As for donations:

There is no cause for the explosion as of right now. Prelim findings found that it was not a bomb or a meth lab. Most speculate it was a natural gas leak, but Citizens Gas would speculate on that yet.
