Pet Sitter

My husband and I are thinking about buying a dog, but will prob need a dog sitter on Thursday and Fridays as we are both out from 8:30am to 6pm on those days.

Any idea how much something like that would cost?  It would be maybe 30 min a shot for a quick walk and some brief interaction.  We are are in the Drexel Hill area - not sure if that makes a difference.

Re: Pet Sitter

  • First of all, you're lucky that Nikki loves Cooter isn't around here or she'd behead you for saying you're "buying" a dog and not rescuing one! ha!

Anywhooo...my coworker raves about her dog walker/sitter and I'm fairly certain she said its $15 a visit and that includes a walk. Let me email her for you and get the scoop!

What kind of dog are you looking at?!

  • We looked into getting a dog walker, it was about $50 for a 30 min walk if I remember correctly. We were in bucks county at the time.

This would be ideal.  We are looking for something on the smaller side, and unfortunately, some sort of Poodle breed.  Poodles are the only dogs my husband doesn't have allergy issues with.  Otherwise, I'm team Corgi all the way.

    1.) Totally forgot she existed.

2.) I'm loving this name variation.

SJU - if you have an email address you can share I will forward you the information. I'm not 100% sure she covers your area but it can't hurt to ask!

  • I'm in Drexel Hill, too and when we were in Alaska for two weeks over the summer, we used Five Paws of Delaware County for our cat (I found them on google).  Jen, the owner, was great and we'll be using her again next time we travel.  I remember the rates being posted on the website but we paid $15 a day for a 30 minute visit and I don't think the rates for dogs were much, if any more.
  • We use Angel Pet Sitting to care for my three little monsters when we go away.

I have been using them for about 3-4 years now and have been very happy with the service.

I was really torn in the beginning about using a pet sitter but then realized the owner is a friend of a friend, to me was better than a complete stranger.

I believe they do scheduled dog walks and they may serve your area.

    Good luck!

The day when you ever so innocently inquired about a Puggle was (and I hate using this word but I'm going to do so anyway) epic.

  • Thanks everyone.  I am going to check out these sites now.  I feel a lot safer using someone people have used in the past.  It's kind of creepy to give some random person access to your house & pet.

And SJU, most dog sitters/walkers will have a reduced cost if you commit to a longer-term agreement or a standing appointment.  The one- or two-time appointments are going to cost the most.

  • How long is too long to leave a go alone?  Our only concern is Thurday & Friday, as we are both out 8:30am to 6pm.  I'm assuming that is too long - right?

  • I'm more of a lurker here, but I love out dog walker, so wanted to chime in...

We use Go Fetch Petsitters. I'm pretty sure they would cover Drexel Hill, since we live right down the road from there. It's $16 per visit, but they do discounts for regular visits, I think.

You might need more than one visit between 8:30 and 6 when your dog is a puppy, but that should go away once he/she is well house-trained. We leave our dog that long on a fairly regular basis and she's fine for those 9 and a half hours without a trip outside - she's also a super lazy lab that probably does nothing but sleep on the couch during that time though.
