Update

The doctor is very happy with the outcome of DH's surgery so I'm thrilled and still very optimistic for a full recovery! He's in a lot of pain but I got to bring him home yesterday and I've done just about everything I can think of to make him comfortable. He says he's fine and is very adamant on being independent so he sent me to work today. I think that's a good sign that he'll heal quickly. Luckily I work under 3 miles from where we live so I can get home quickly if needed and go home during lunch to check in on him.

The best story from Tuesday is that right before they took him away from me, the anesthesiologist asked him if he wanted anything for his "nerves" which he said he did. They gave him something and left the two of us alone. Whatever they gave him worked very fast and before either of us knew it, he was conscious but totally high as a kite. He looks at me and says "I know I shouldn't be discussing this right now, but in the future I think we should" and right at that moment the anesthesiologist showed back up and told us it was time. He has no recollection of this conversation and I will forever wonder what the end of that sentence was!

That would drive me crazy not knowing what he almost said!

  • So glad that surgery went well! Best wishes for his speedy recovery...and hopefully a return of his pre-op memory so you can find out the end of that sentence!
  • Glad to hear things went well!  Ah, the suspense..

  • I am so pumped to read this update!  Here's to a speedy recovery for your H!

When you go for his post-op follow up appointment, can you benignly ask for more pain killers?  You know, "just in case" and slip them in his coffee so you can solve the mystery...?  Too far?  :)

  • Wonderful news.

    And what ifs are terrible.

HA! I don't think that's too far at all....but whatever it was that they gave him was given to him through his IV. I don't think the regular old pain meds are going to help. I already have a full stock of those and I'm getting nothing from him with them. I think the "I know I shouldn't be discussing this right now" was what makes it so much more suspenseful. It had to of been something good, right?!

  • So happy for the good news!  My H had outpatient surgery last year and they gave him propofol to put him out (the stuff Michael Jackson was addicted to). The surgeon came out to talk to me after the surgery was done and was sharing the funny running stories my H was saying just before he went out.

Surgery was about 35 minutes and he was alert and awake within the hour, but he said he felt like he had slept for 7-8 hours and felt fully rested. (no wonder MJ was hooked on the stuff) He has no recollection of telling funny stories right before surgery.
  • Great news!

  • So happy to hear that, I hope his recovery continues to go well!

The funny thing is that it was probably something stupid he was about to say.  My dad was saying the craziest things that made no sense before he went in for surgery once lol

  • Excellent news!  And funny story - I've been known to say crazy things that make no sense during anesthesia (or high as a kite, ahem, a long time ago), so if it makes you feel better, it may have been nothing meaningful at all!  It's kinda like saying something in your sleep.
