Home shopping stress...

Hi everyone!

I made the move over the the nest from the knot a few months ago but have just kinda been stalking in the background...

The DH and I are currently home shopping and it is pretty discouraging.

We found a great end of group all brick 1950's townhouse with hardwood floors throughout. It has lots of charm, is in the perfect location and is in livable condition but does need some kitchen updates. The house is about $20k overpriced but we put in an offer on Monday. Tuesday morning the seller refused the offer. We put in another offer for $10k more and the seller countered with the listed price plus 3% closing. We didn't accept their offer and decided not to counter because it seems as though the seller just isn't motivated to sell and doesn't want to negotiate.

To add to the stress, our lease is up for out apartment the beginning of March and we would need to give our notice that we are moving by the end December.

I'm pretty bummed. We are still looking but there isn't a lot of houses coming on the market right now. I need some nestie encouragement!!

Re: Home shopping stress...

  • You need to give three month's notice to end your lease?  Wow, that sucks and certainly makes things more difficult.  It took me two years of looking to find a house.  I think what you need to do is go to whoever you lease from and ask if you can go to a tenancy at will after March, a month to month agreement, that way you ease up a smidge of stressors in that regard.

  • Ugh! Buying a house is so stressful.  It took us 8 months and 9 offers to get a house and then another month to close.  It's worth it in the end so keep it up but I know how you feel.

If I were you I would really try to find a month to month place.  You really don't want to settle just because of timing.  In my area people typically list houses in the spring.

    Good Luck.
