Question of the Day - Friday

In terms of money what everyday items to do:

Go cheap on

Never go cheap on

Re: Question of the Day - Friday

  • I'm pretty cheap so we usually go store brand unless another brand is on sale or we've tried the store brand and it sucks. I usually can't tell the difference and neither can H.

  • I agree with bbphoto785 about store brands.

We "splurge" on meat, though- We only eat it once or twice a week and what we do eat I get from Whole Foods since their meats are marked with humaneness ratings. There's no way we could go totally vegetarian, but I don't want any animals to go through any needless suffering, either.

Otherwise, things we think we'll keep for awhile (electronics, jewelry, winter coats) we tend to spend a little more on, but things that we'll want to change often (clothes, seasonal decor) we spend less on.

  • I agree with the above... we eat a lot of Pasta..so i'll buy the no name brand stuff... it's cheap, and tastes exactly the same as the "expensive" pasta.

I sale shop a lot for pretty much all my groceries.... so i try to save money that way wherever i can! Actually i was disappointed in myself this week because I missed a big sale at the grocery store... :( haha

Things I won't cheap out on though are Jackets and Shoes... my parents taught me that from a very early age... you don't want to be cold/wet and you don't want to have sore feet.. so i'll spend good money on coats and shoes.

  • Cheap- Clothes, I go to target or kohls, I always find cute stuff

Not Cheap - once in awhile we splurge on a brand name watch or jacket or electronics.

  • Cheap - Bread, Flip flops

Not cheap- Paper towels and toilet paper

  • I have to admit, I don't spend much time looking at prices, clipping coupons, or look for sales at the grocery store. I buy what I like and what I need. We typically purchase the same items every week (milk, fruit, chicken, popsicles, pasta/sauce, etc). Maybe in the future when there are kids involved, we'll be more concentious (lol. can't spell that word).

I will not go cheap on toilet paper or paper towels. We also buy a higher end cat food. Clothing and shoes I like to buy on sale when I can, but I no longer buy cheap stuff (ie- Old Navy, Gap, Target) because I want the item to last more than a season. We just bought a new sofa and we spent a little more money for a well made, American made one versus the cheaper, less expensive Chinese made one. If I want something to last, I am willing to spend more money for it.

Toilet paper is our not cheap/store brand exception. I hate, HATE, with a firey passion hate, cheap toilet paper! We definitely splurge and get Charmin extra strong.

  • Cheap: Most clothes, because even expensive things (ex. Victorias Secret) suck sometimes and flip flops. Pasta and bread because who really can tell the difference?!

Not cheap: Heels. Personal care items such as shampoo & conditioner, soaps, deodorant, tampons, etc.
