What's everybody doing for Thanksgiving?
Where are you going, or who are you hosting? What are you making? Are you excited or not so much? Poor old Thanksgiving gets railroaded by Christmas so much, so I wanted to give it a post.
Re: What's everybody doing for Thanksgiving?
my bookshelf!
Bloggy
That evening we're having dinner at my mom's. It'll be the 3 of us, my mom, stepdad, sister, and future BIL. My mom insists on doing all of the cooking, so I don't have to make anything for that one! I'm ridiculously excited about thanksgiving this year---very ready for a break, extra time with DH, G, and seeing family, and food. Mmmmm
For Kevin's family, we'll go to his parents. I wont have much responsibility there, but will probably bring something.
My twin sister is hosting for my family on Friday evening so ill go to her house and we'll Black Friday shop like mad men with our other sister and then all spend the rest of the day cooking. I have no idea who is making or bringing what yet, but I'm excited about it.
We're going to my grandma's, as usual.
I normally don't bring much of anything (maybe one side dish) but since we keep the boys (especially Chase) wheat/sugar/dairy free I'm going to have to bring stuff for them to eat. I'm planning to make stuffing, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. If it wasn't for them, I totally wouldn't care and would just eat whatever I want and suffer the consequences later.
We're going to H's grandparents on the actual day, and to my parents' house on Friday. I'm bringing deviled eggs to my folks', and I'm not sure yet what to bring for H's family. I'm especially looking forward to eating cinnamon rolls and watching the parade, because I'm apparently still six years old.
ETA: Oooh! I might make kale au gratin, too. I just found a recipe for it in Real Simple, and it looks divine.
I'm always excited about Thanksgiving! It's turning into one of my favorites. We're just going to my mom's house like we always do. We don't have family besides my mom, sister, and grandma so it's always just a small thing. This is the first year that my mom's husband and his daughter are going to stay home and have Thanksgiving with us so we'll have a few more people than we ever have before.
I make an amazing stuffing, and I'm also making the green bean casserole and a chocolate dessert.
We have Thanksgiving with my mom's side of the family this Sunday.Thinking I will be making Turkey cupcakes for this.
Thanksgiving day we will go to my dad's side of the family. I am making pumpkin pies.
The Saturday after Thanksgiving we will be going to Enid for lunch with C's mom's family.
We are spending it with my family in Texas. DH works Wednesday, so we're going to leave fairly early Thursday morning and then return on Saturday or Sunday.
The great thing about traveling is that I'm not responsible for any dishes. Normally we leave Wed after work, but with DS this year that would be more trouble than it's worth. Mornings are much easier. So, that means we'll basically roll in right around meal time
I'm really looking forward to it. I much prefer Thanksgiving with my family over it with DH's.
We're going to my parents' farm for Thanksgiving this year, then we'll be with H's family for Christmas. H and I will be picking up a smoked turkey on Wednesday, then driving down that evening, probably coming back home on Saturday.
Holidays with my side of the family are pretty small; just my parents, my brother and his wife, my grandma, H and I. It's nice to have a small group, but can get pretty boring. I'm trying to think of ways to liven it up this year, possibly involving alcohol.
We're bringing aforementioned smoked turkey, and I'm baking a three-layer chocolate stout cake that is to die for. I wanted to make an apple-blackberry pie with cheddar crust, but my family isn't huge on fruit pies. I figure you can't go wrong with chocolate cake. Can't wait for Mom's dressing and mashed potatoes!
