I got into it with a guy at the grocery store yesterday..

So I had to share this story because I'm still pretty pissed off about the whole thing.

Last night I braved Crest because we were totally out of a few necessary staples, such as toilet paper. My goal was to just get in, get what we needed for the next few days, and get out. But then I saw a bunch of stuff was on sale at the meat counter, so I figured I would stock up on a few things (seriously, chicken breasts were $1.88/pound).

While I'm at the meat counter, this other customer is fussing about something.. like two different pieces of bacon weighed at different prices or something (no way). And even though the meat counter guys were totally polite, this customer all of a sudden yells (and I mean YELLS... I'm sure children 50 feet away heard him), "fxck you!!!" to one of the guys, and he keeps repeating it. And then he starts laughing... and while he's laughing is telling this guy behind the counter that he should really do a better job and that if he doesn't know how to do his job then maybe he should get a manager to do it for him. Guy behind the counter was like, "I AM a manager, and I can do my job perfectly well, thank you." And customer starts calling him an azzhole (still loudly enough for kids to hear) and walks off, still laughing.

So I'm like.. whoa, what an azz. And all the guys were apologizing profusely to me for having to see that. And I was like, "Hey, not your fault. It's okay." Well then dude comes BACK and says, "Okay, I'm here to get my bacon." And the guy he was yelling at said, "Please leave." Guy refuses to leave and starts getting crappy again, and so the worker again says, "Please leave. I will call security." And customer is like, "Why would you call security on me?!" Counter guy replies, "Well, for starters you cussed me out. Please leave." Well guy still doesn't leave, so sure enough they call security. And he's still trying to yell at the workers, telling them he's a customer so he can talk to them however he wants, and they're a bunch of azzholes, etc.

So dude finally figures out he should probably leave before security shows up, and he walks away. But I am pissed. I've never seen someone be so rude to people, all the while thinking it's funny. And lately my patience level for rudeness and cattiness has been zero. So I walked up next to him and said, "Could you have been any more rude to those guys? They were nothing but friendly and were doing their best to help you. What is your problem?" Guy looked at me and was like, "Well I'm the customer. So I can say whatever I want to them." And was like, "NO you can't! Saying 'eff you' to someone? Really? That is unacceptable behavior. You had no right to treat them like that." And so he starts telling me again that he can say whatever he wants because he's the customer, and the customer is always right. So I laid into him again and told him he was the azzhole, not them. I also told him he was an adult, not a child, and he should be ashamed of his ridiculous behavior, and that I was a customer too but I wouldn't dream of disrespecting other people like that.

He was such a loser I doubt I made any impression on him. Nevertheless, it felt good. I wish I could've gone on longer, but either his cougar or his mommy showed up (not sure which it was), so he turned away from me while I was yelling. But a small (okay, large) part of me hopes I ruined the rest of his day.

  • What a total punk. Really, it's very bizarre. I almost wonder if he was having some kind of breakdown or was mentally ill or something. At any rate, something definitely is wrong with him because normal people just don't behave that way. I definitely understand losing your temper with this dude - I probably would have too. Try to just put this moron out of your head - maybe he's just nuts.
  • EW. I hate people that treat others like crap over stupid things.  I  always shocked at what people lose their cool over--9/10 it's unreasonable!  I bet it felt good to say something.  I always think the "what would you do?" people are going to pop out with their cameras when I hear about this stuff!

  • I am muy impressed, lady, good for you!

  • What an ass.  Good for you for telling him off!
  • I'd still be pissed about that, too - who does that? Seriously? Good for you for telling him off; that was totally unacceptable.

  • Was he on something? Or seriously just THAT ghetto? When you say he was screaming and laughing it makes me think he was on something.

I didn't get that impression. It felt like he was having fun being a "cool" guy beating up on someone else, if that makes sense.

And I try not to make it a point to judge people on their looks... but it looked like he probably got a lot of swirlies and wedgies in high school.

What a pathetic little man. I'm even more glad that you let him have it.
