Anyone else here today?

What's everyone's plans for Thanksgiving? Going Black Friday shopping? Thoughts on stores opening up on Thanksgiving night? ENTERTAIN ME, PEOPLE! :P

Re: Anyone else here today?

  • I'm here!  We're celebrating Thanksgiving with just us this year, then my parents and DH's brother and his family are coming over on Saturday for Nolan's birthday party.

I have no intentions of going out on Black Friday.  I'd rather do all online shopping :P

I think the stores opening on Thanksgiving is terrible.  Peo9ple working in retail should get to spend Thanksgiving with their families.

  • I'm here. Working hard to stay motivated at work.

DH's immediate family except his niece who has to work (boo, subway!) is coming to our house tomorrow and my parents are staying with us for the weekend. I'm way more organized than usual, so I can go to knitting tonight, yay!

On Friday we're going to Phipps and then seeing DH's extended family in the evening.

On Saturday Todd has a birthday party to attend and we'll enjoy quality time with my parents. Maybe do done online shopping and design our Christmas card. I should probably start decorating for Christmas...but I don't think I'm ready for that yet!

Not sure about Sunday. I was thinking that we might take the kids bowling for the first time. Or maybe we'll just stay in our pjs all day. :-)

  • I am home, operation turkey prep continues.  Kev is home today too. Not sure if that is good or bad. He is chatty this morning.  Tongue Tied  Have lots to do, but Mo sat on my lap so I was taking this time to say morning to you all.  Hope your work day goes by quickly.
  • I'm here, hoping for a slow day after yesterday which was a cluster of bad. So far, so good (knock of wood).

I'm not currently planning on going out tomorrow but I am getting Nathan a new computer for Christmas and yesterday poor Murphy got wrapped up in the cord and pulled his over and it is now a nice piece of art. Sad So if there is an amazing deal on laptops I may venture out. Hold me!

I think it is ridiculous stores opening on Thanksgiving. But the only way retailers won't do it is if people don't go. But people will, so it will continue. My sister works retail, but she is in NY for Thanksgiving so she is missing the crazy. But she is really lucky that her employer is sympathetic. I have heard stories from several people at Target/Wal-Mart that if they don't work Black Friday, they will not have a job.

  • I'm here today, too - was supposed to have a half day, but Conall's Evil Knieval ways last friday (ending him in the ER) killed that plan. I do get to be remote, though, as Gavin has a half day at school. so, I don't feel too bad for myself!

My p/t job actually hosts a huge T-Day buffet, so I am working tomorrow for a few hours. This means DH gets to cook our 4-lb turkey and sides. I will get to see some of the Macy's parade with the kids before I leave, though!

I probably will not do any shopping, since I basically have the kids done and I'm not seeing anything that really grabs my attention. I basically have just the parents left to buy for, so I'm in good shape! I am hoping to take the boys somewhere for some indoor fun, though - they need to burn off steam and DH needs to get some outdoor lights up!

Happy gobble gobble day and have a safe weekend!

    My three sons!

  • I'm doing a half day. Then I'm getting Steve's mom, who came in last night, and we're going to lunch and to do the last of our thanksiving grocery shopping (got help us) and we'll get some wine.

Tonight I'm making my pumpkin cheesecake and an extra pan of brownies for my brownie trifle.

Tomorrow I get to cook the rest of the meal while Steve moves the last of the construction equipment out of my new dining room.

Our tradition with Carol is go to out shopping a little on Black Friday, we we don't do the crazy early morning, though with the kids waking up early we've been out by 8 anyway the past few years :)

We're home early afternon and we start putting up the tree.

Saturday I have a first birthday party for my friend's son, so I need to get a present and card that while we're out on Friday.

Sunday I'm going to relax and I'm having a friend come over to pamper me :)

  • We're spending tomorrow with DH's family. Most likely it's going to be a group effort on the meal since his mom is still recovering from her accident over the summer, but I think it will be fun:) Friday Claire and I are having breakfast with my mom and that night DH and I are going on a date! Saturday/Sunday - putting up decorations and trying to relax. I'm not a Black Friday shopper at all, so I probably won't venture out (I might look online a little, but that's it!). I feel really bad for the people that have to go into work the afternoon/evening of Thanksgiving :(

  • we go to my ILs tonight (every year) for an untraditional Tgiving dinner.  Hopefully my poor SIL makes it.  She has been stuck for 24 hours due to airline strike (??) and can't get out of NC.

tomorrow we go to my parents for dinner.

i doubt i will go out on Friday - if I do, it will be later in the day.  Mike has to work which is a first for him on BF so that kind of sucks :(

Saturday I have a baby shower and then just relaxing for the rest of the wknd :)

  • ME! Although I am stressed and doing work. I don't wanna but figure it is quiet and no one here to bug me. Ha.

No black friday for me either. Will do cyber monday. Ha. I offered SIL who loves to go Black Friday that I would watch my niece. :)

I got a mass email from JC Penny's CEO saying they will open Black friday and stress FRIDAY because he feels it is important their workers spend the holiday with family. I thought that was great.

  • I'm working today. Then off until the first Monday in December.

We are heading to my parents tomorrow for Thanksgiving.  Gonna hunt in the morning and eat in the afternoon.  Which is our family tradition.

I'm not sure yet what we are doing Friday.  My DH always takes me out shopping for Black Friday but so far I haven't really seen any great deals for stuff we want/need so I'm not sure if it is worth it.

I think it is terrible that the stores think they should open on Thanksgiving and I find it even more terrible that people will shop on Thanksgiving.

  • I am here!  We are in our crazy season at work so I am trying to maintain my sanity.

We are heading to my aunt's in Ligonier for Thanksgiving - all I have to bring is wine, so that is one easy thing on my to do list!

Tonight we are heading to our Thanksgiving-Eve tradition of dinner at Mad Mex.  Nothing says thankful quite like a margarita.

I've never shopped on Black Friday and would maybe only consider it if I saw an awesome deal or was in desperate need of something specific.  As far as stores being open on Thanksgiving, I totally think it sucks  - that being said, there are also so many people outside of retail who have always been required to work on holidays, I feel for everyone who doesn't have the option to spend the holiday with family.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Totally agree Meghan! Gary is working until 3:00 tomorrow and then we are heading to his parents for dinner. In the evening, I am meeting my mom to give her the boys so that they can stay overnight at her house. Friday - I am working all day! Saturday - Gary is working all day and I have to get ready for Nolan's b-day party on Sunday. Sunday - Nolan's family b-day party at 2:00. Happy Thankgiving everyone!

  • Driving up to Meadville and then Erie.  Lunch with my fam and dinner with DH's.  Then home.  I don't do black friday shopping.  I refuse to go anywhere near a store on the Friday after Turkey day.

  • I put in a LOOONG day. and spent way too much time in Traffic. Left the house 12 hrs ago and now have to do all the cleaning and prep for dinner here tomorrow.

I do plan on going out Friday. I believe my sister is bailing on me though. I dont have a ton of must gets, but I took off work.  I will still try to get some deals on things I will need anyway and try to get most of shopping done.  I will spend some nice, unlimited time to my self with a credit card and a gingerbread latte...or two!

I don't like that everyone is open Turkey day. The one thing I really want on a deal is at walmart at 8 pm,.   we eat early so everyone should be gone. I am hoping I can get it online- it seems I may be able too, so that I am not actually contributing to the opening on Thanksgiving....If I can not I am debating on trying to get to a store and deal with it and be "part of the problem" $60 savings is a lot..

  • We'll be at DH's aunt and uncle's in Latrobe for lunch, and then back here to have dinner with my family.  We will NOT be going shopping tomorrow; I think that's ridiculous.

We will, however, be up bright and early Friday morning to go shopping!  Can't wait :)

Saturday we always go get our tree, so we will be doing that and decorating, and then DH has to go out of town that afternoon for work.
