Vent about co-worker

On Tuesday, the receptionist at my office texted me while I was on my way to work saying she wasn't feeling well and was going to run to Solantic on her way to work. As the clerk in our office, it's my job to take her place when she is out. So when I got to work on Tuesday I sat at her desk and waited for her to show.. At 12:00 I got a text saying she wasn't going to come to work because she tested positive for Strep. Then again on Wednesday, I got a text saying that she was still not going to be in, because she was still contagious. Another day of me not being able to get my work done. We texted throughout the day and she complained of boredom and said she couldn't wait to come back to work and get caught up on all she had missed (it is our busy season right now). 4:00 rolls around and she texts me "I'm not coming in tomorrow. I have other stuff to do." She runs a dog-treat business and apparently got a really huge order in and needed all day to fill it. I was so mad!! So now I haven't gotten any of my own work done in 3 days because of her! And she's still pretending to be sick so everyone is like "poor her, she's so sick! poor thing! we should do something for her!!"

UGH!

Re: Vent about co-worker

  • I will bet a trillion dollars she was not ill at all and off attending to her side business.

Your supervisor needs to intercede here and take it from here. She also needs to request a doc's note, to ensure that she is no longer contagious... I will bet you that she won't be able to produce a note at all.

She has other stuff to do? Her "Stuff to do" needs to be a trip to the unemployment office to file for benefits. Sheesh...how irresponsible of her.

Make certain that this person's boss knows about this bullshit behavior. This chick needs to be terminated. What she did -- if it turns out she wasn't ill at all -- is fraud. She flat out and straight away lied about being sick.

Another reason why I hate texting:. Shut that phone OFF and let this chick stew all day long in her juices. Why are you permitting yourself to be at her beck and call --- and this is another thing: if i was the supervisor int hat office, I'd make it a rule that thee is to be no texting and no surfing the web during work hours. You're here to work, not socialize with friends and family.

  • Does your company differentiate between sick time and personal time?  If they do and she is using sick time to do personal activities AND it's affecting the business I would mention it to her directly.  If she does it again then go to your boss.

If your company does not differentiate between sick and personal time then she's in the clear to take off whatever time she wants and you should just get over it.  Most people take time off to run errands and do other things, it's usually not a crime and they don't mean harm on others.
