Napa Suggestions

We are going back to Napa!  We have been to the following wineries below.  Do you have any other suggestions?  I do not think we are going to do Sonoma this year but instead spend a day in the Calistoga region.  We like cabs if that matters.

Thanks for your help!  Below is a list of wineries we have tried:

Cline Cellars
Jacuzzi
Ravenswood
Domaine Carneros
Round Pond
Frogs Leap
Mumm
Rubicon
Peju
Del Dotto
Stags Leap
Mondavi
Luna
Hess
Alpha Omega
Beaulieu Vineyard
Chaix
Elizabeth Spencer
Meander
Honig
J. Moss
Lieff
Pedemonte
Raymond
St. Supery
Tres Sabores
Vice Versa
Ledson
Benzinger
Kenwood
Franciscan
Swanson
Robert Sinskey
Rutherford Ranch

Re: Napa Suggestions

  • We went to Bell on our last trip and the tasting and wines were both great (pricey, though). Miner up on Silverado Trail is good, too. I might have some others in my Wine Country blogs, but those two stick out to me and aren't on your list.

Thanks for the tips. We did French Laundry our last visit. LOVE...saw it in the blog.

  • We love Silverado (we're wine club members there). They have fantastic cabs! If you want to splurge, their library tasting of older and reserve wines is fantastic.

We also really like Whitehall Lane and Conn Creek (members there too). Whitehall Lane has some great cabs and they do a really nice food pairing tasting upstairs in a private room. Conn Creek does a wine blending that is pretty incredible too - you get to blend your own wine from a dozen different cabs from various appellations in the valley. I learned so much in that session and had a lot of fun (their wines are great too).

They don't do cabs, but Prager Port works is really fun (need appointment) and Venge does an excellent tour and tasting (also appt only). And I have heard great things about Chappallet, Scribe, and Balducci (all need appt).

You didn't ask, but some general restaurant recs:
Redd and Bottega for a fancier dinner (I've not done FL but I think both of these have incredible food that's a more affordable alternative for a big night out)
Redd Wood - great pizza and pasta
Farmstead - really solid farm to table food. the burger is excellent
Goose and Gander - awesome cocktails

I'm in SF and head up to Napa and Sonoma about once a month so if you have any other questions, let me know.

  • I would include the Sonoma valley in your tour north of San Francisco. The town of Sonoma has a nice square with historical buildings and the Jack London State Park is worth a visit. Benziger Winery is on the road to the park.

  • Our two favorites on our Napa tour were The Terraces and Salvestrin. Both were private tours that our tour guide set up though. However, you could call ahead. At The Terraces, the owner drove us around the vineyard in his golf cart, let us taste his 12 year old balsamic vinegar and had us taste wine in his kitchen. It was awesome.

I also agree that Prager Ports was fun as well.

  • RUTHERFORD HILL!!!!  It is beautiful!  There is an awesome picnic area just outside the tasting room, it has an amazing view!!! That's where we got engaged!  This picnic area over looks Napa and you can see all the vineyards, beautiful!!!  There is  a little place to pick up picnic food too on the way up there, Oakville Grocery and just near that is Clos du Val, this place I wasn't able to go to, they had a private thing goin on, but I heard that this place is absolutely gorgeous as well...  O also, Silver Oak and Sterling winery were amazing as well!  I LOVE NAPA!!!  I have only been there once, but it was so awesome and we cannot wait to go back..  O and if you do go to Sanoma, go to Francis Coppola, this place is just cool, it has a bunch of old stuff from his movies.  Just a fun place to check out...  Have fun!  I am so jealous!!
