Handprint Molds/Ornaments
I want to make ornaments of my baby's handprint (I need 3, one for DH & me, and one for each set of grandparents) but don't want to fork over $14 a kit, that starts adding up fast.
I tried polymer clay, I had a hard time getting it soft enough, by the time I kneaded it forever and used clay softener additive, it had little flecks of dust in it (very obvious on white clay!), and then it stuck horribly to baby's hand.
I was thinking either salt dough or plaster of paris. Anybody have experience with making handprint molds/ornaments? What would you recommend? I want this to last years, my entire lifetime.

I have no advice for clay, but are you set on doing that kind of ornament?
Last year I did hand print/foot print reindeer ornaments. I used sheets of craft foam, and made the head (footprint) dark brown and the antlers (hand prints) light brown. I didn't take a picture of mine, but they were something like this:
This year we're going to try and do the snowman hand print ornaments, like these:
Just some other ideas, in case you were getting frustrated with the clay. I'm hoping to keep doing some kind of hand print or footprint things with DD until she's too big for it. Good luck!
Sugar & Spice
I just saw a salt dough post on Pinterest.... it looked pretty easy/cute.
My sister-in-law did the paint handprint ornaments last year, and those are seriously adorable, and still formal/classy decorations and not too 'art-project' like.
