parents anniversary party?

I am hosting my parents 40th wedding anniversary party and my brother is making a photo montage for the party. I am struggling to decide with him on how many pictures to put? he doesn't want it to last to long. we are thinking back on our grand parents 40th ann party and how my mom made one and it lasted 1 and half hour to watch the movie, i want to make it that long too. we will have the time at the party. what else is there to do at this kind of party besides dancing(which i don't know if we will be having dancing). so what do you ladies think? is 1 and half hour or even 1 and 45 mins too long?

Re: parents anniversary party?

  • I think that is really long. If you're expecting everyone to just sit and watch the slideshow, I'd keep it shorter... half hour-ish tops. If it's going to be playing in the background throughout the party, while guests are arriving, eating, mingling, dancing, etc., then it doesn't really matter how long it is.

This is a party about your parents and a testament to their lasting love and long marriage. Do what you think they would like. But, if you have so many pictures that it would be a nearly two hour slide show, I'd think about making an abridged version to show to the guests, and then give your parents the full version as a gift.

I agree with this. If it'll just run in a loop during the whole party, and is not something everyone needs to pay attention to the whole time, then 1.5 hours is fine. If it's something you want people to watch in its entirety - no getting up to get a fresh drink, bite to eat, or use the bathroom... I'd keep it to 15 or 20 minutes. Otherwise your parents won't get a chance to mingle with everyone at the party and socialize since a large portion of the party would be devoted to watching the slideshow.

  • I agree with what everyone has says. If its long, make it more of a thing that is playing in the background.

At my parents 25th anniversary, we had some small forms of entertainment. My grandparents hired an accordian player and a frank sinantra ish singer. But that is my parents (well really, it was my grandmothers...) taste. So it depends on their taste and what they enjoy.

though the accordian player was a lot of fun, he went up to all the tables and had people clapping along etc. He played while dessert was served.
