How was your Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Weekend?

I can tell everyone's been busy, myself included. Is anyone back to the usual grind now? How was your holiday, shopping, and weekend in general?

Re: How was your Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Weekend?

  • I'm back to the grind today...ick! I took Wed out of work so I can't belive 5 days went by so fast. I wish the work weeks were so fast. Thanksgiving was good. My mom did the turkey and I ended up making some mashed sweet potatoes, stuffing and green beans plus i picked up a maple walnut cake to bring. My brother made some stuff too and we had a nice relaxing meal...though I went home and fell asleep at 8 pm and missed meeting up with some friends I wanted to see that are moving to tokoyo next month- so I was pretty bummed...

anyway- the HS reunion went really well. Only 35 people had paid/signed up but on the day of the reunion we ended up with over 60 guests! (kind of annoying, to chase people for $ but nice to have a big turn out) I drank WAY too much and spent most of Saturday lounging on the couch with a banging headache which to me was a waste of a day!!! errrr

actually did some xmas shoppping on Wed when I was off and supposed to be cooking. I got a haircut (much needed) and went to wrentham. I ended up getting DH some nice leather slip ons from cole hann. 150 + 50% + 10% AAA discount + 20% coupon = $54! He really needed them and for that price, tat's cheaper than some non-leather pair he could pick up at Macys Wrentham was EMPTY on Wednesday and they were honoring all the black friday sales. My mom got an entire set of china from wedgewood (everyday gorden ramset stuff), 6 place settings, for $100 and I bought myself a pair of work flats at Cole Hann for $30, you can't really beat that.

I haven't done any other shopping really. My brother wants to go halves on a TV for my parents, which I am kind of hoping we decide NOT to do, as I wasn't planning on such a big ticket item this year...and my mom was really hoping for a kindle instead. I also hit up target on black friday around 3 pm since I was buying deocrations for the reunion--but I didn't see anything I had to have. I picked up some lipglosses for my 14 yr old neice and called it a day!

    We will see .....

what's on everyone's holiday wish lists?!~ I am obsessed with these PJS my mom picked up for me for me bday at marhsalls they are sleeveless top and some capris but the sofest jersey/cotton blend. They are amazing. I wear them all the time. I was kind of hoping DH would get my hints that I really wanted a pair of the same PJS in a long sleeve/long pant version or even a short sleeve and long pant version for the winter....I love them :)

  • I'm back to the grind. 4 weeks to go! I don't know how I'm going to make it.

Thanksgiving was good. My 87-year-old grandmother hosted again. Food was great as usual. My mother drove me nuts, as she is the expert in all things pregnancy, birth, and child-rearing related and refuses to accept that I do my own research and come to different conclusions than she does. My brother is doing really well.

Spent more of Friday shopping than I had planned. Didn't do a whole lot of shopping on Friday, but did do a fair amount over the course of the weekend. Half of that was online, though. Finally ordered a double stroller - fingers crossed we like it when it arrives, because I have NO idea what we're going to get if we don't like this one.

I spent a lot of time this weekend sewing stuff for DS's room. I'm making a duvet, comforter, throw pillows, and changing pad cover. It's been really nice to have some quiet time crafting. I'm hoping by next weekend we'll have enough done to make it feel like a mostly-finished room and I can post pics of the progress!

My wish list is a new cell phone. I haven't upgraded in 3 years (DH took my last upgrade when he had issues with his recently upgraded phone...) and mine is on the fritz now. I have no idea what to get, though. And I really wanted to make a big upgrade to a smartphone with a cheap data plan and wifi before the new baby comes. I was hoping to score the Samsung Galaxy S III that was recommended by a coworker, as it was on sale at Walmart for only $130 and you get a $100 walmart gift card back, but by Saturday morning when I went, all of the ones at local stores were sold or stolen. Anyone have a phone they love that isn't an iphone? Much preferred Android over Windows.

  • We went to my sister's house for Thanksgiving, only to have DS come down with a fever by the evening. He's just getting over it now, but still having trouble sleeping with the cough & congestion.

No Black Friday in-store shopping for me. Bought some Christmas presents online, and in some cases got to take advantage of sales (Dockers, Champion, Amazon, Kohls)... Spent $$$ this week on our vehicles, as they were both due for big mileage servicing. But, also managed to stop by Burlington Coat Factory and both DH & I got new winter coats.

Returned the 5 extra shirts that Kohl's mistakenly sent me (they sent me a full lot of six when I only ordered one, because they were still bundled in the extra plastic bag... Oops!) They gave me a Kohl's Cash coupon as a thank you. Them bought 2 hot item toys for a friend who has been looking for them for her kids. Them we put up two mini trees in my kids' rooms, but have yet to put up our Christmas tree. So, Sunday was a Christmas spirit, good deed kind of day.

My wishlist: sewing machine, kitchen digital food scale, new clothes in my size (I'm down nearly 3 sizes, and in many cases am using belts to make my larger clothes work) , emergency/first aid kit for my vehicle... Boring, but I have a hard time asking for things for me.

  • I'm back finally - drove back from RI yesterday so today is my Monday (yay for another 4 day week!).

thanksgiving was great - too much food, I was the DD so not enough wine but the food was delish ;-)

Then we spent Fri-Sun in boston, just DH and I, for our first ever getaway without the kids! Our only other overnight w/o them in 4+ years had been to share a hotel room with friends for mardi gras, so this was our first getaway as a couple and it was AWESOME.

Came back to harsh doses of reality with cars breaking, phone calls re: late paychecks and way too many stresses, but I will remember my weekend in Boston for many many years. And the smiles on my kids' faces when we came home. Love them.

No wishlist for me b/c we don't do gifts. Unless powerball winnings counts, then I wish to win that on wednesday to solve literally all of my problems. I hate when money is seriously the only problem I have in life. B/c it is 'just money' - but without it we can't eat, work, etc. *sigh*

  • I agree. I looked at DH last night and said I felt lucky so we should buy a powerball ticket. I know they say money only brings you more problems--but now that we are on the house hunt, and finding something "in" our budget seems impossible, an extra 100 or  200k sitting around would be a BIG help to us!! Heck, $10,000 would be a big help at this point.

Last year my aunt and uncle actually won the lottery. They live on long island. I don't know if it was part of a powerball or what..but they won 65,000 after taxes. I have a pretty lucky family, because another aunt and uncle one time won a car in a school raffle.

So maybe its my turn!!! Or yours Michelle!!!
