A warm Xmas away from NYC
Hi ladies,
I feel like it's almost too late to plan for the week between Christmas and New Year's, and obviously, it's not the cheapest time to travel, but I'm going to give it a try. DH and I are into nature, culture/sights, food, beach; nightlife is not important.
Please give me some fresh ideas for a (relatively) warm place a (relatively) short flight south from NYC! We have already been to Florida (Miami and the Keys), Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Grand Bahama, Riviera Maya, and Costa Rica. TIA!

Re: A warm Xmas away from NYC
we're going to Puerto Rico during that week. I'd also look into Aruba for guaranteed warm weather.... we also were considering a 4 night cruise from Miami but didn't want the risk of 60 degree weather - we want to lay on the beach
if you haven't already googled flights, be prepared for prices 2x the norm....
were doing 2 weeks for christmas and new years in mexico-first week at our timeshare in cancun the 2nd week at royal suites yucatan down by tulum. generally we go for 10 days to 2 weeks in the beginning of december but we switched it for the holidays this year. looking forward to it!!
have you considered a cruise? it might be nice to hit a few different islands. otherwise anywhere int he caribbean will be nice and warm. what's your budget? belize mayvbe..
We'll be going to Southern California for the holidays.
I like the cruise suggestion. Perhaps you could cruise right out of NYC.
Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming! The only thing is, we are not into cruising, especially from NYC in winter
How does everyone feel about the Gulf Coast? I realize it's not going to be beach wether, but we haven't been, and I'm curious. New Orleans, maybe?
we we in NOLA last year for New Years (my birthday is NYE so we almost always travel during this week). The weather was amazing! It was in the low-mid 70s during the day. Definitely flip flops weather for this Pittsburgher. It was cold at night though (needed a coat) so it was kind of a PITA to pack in a carry-on.
It was a blast. if you've never been, I would highly recommend. Lots and lots of fun, and amazing food. The Christmas decorations were so pretty too - all the balconies and hotels were decked out. There really isn't anywhere else like new orleans
I love the gulf coast! New Orleans is fun, and the swamps and marshes in the area are beautiful. It would be fun to rent a car in New Orleans and drive to Cape San Blas FL. You could get there easily in a day and there's neat stuff to see along the way too. That way you could get city, nature, culture and beaches.
A few years ago we went on a trip to Cape San Blas (and Florida's "forgotten coast"). It was so much fun. There is NO ONE out there, and it's beautiful. Vacation rentals are the only lodging.
Another place I love is Savannah Georgia, maybe not so great for beaches though. I wouldn't do SoCal, it's too far and won't be that warm. Obviously it'll be warmer than New York. But it wouldn't be beach weather really, just cold and grey.
