Dog / kennel question

So Kodi has gotten so particular about food these days; he basically will no longer eat his dry food unless we mix something in with it.

He'll be going to the kennel for two days (basically for 5 meals, as he gets fed twice a day). Does anyone know if it's best for me to bring a container of dry mixed with wet already, or should I just bring the dry in one container and a couple of wet cans and let them mix it togther (and he only gets about a 1/4th can with each bowl, so they would have to store an open can)? FWIW, the kennel we go to is a small, family-owned place and super nice. It's just that it''s hard to get a hold of them when you call, since they're always with the animals, and I need to know for tomorrow.

Advice?

Re: Dog / kennel question

  • I think I would open the cans and stick them into a plastic container, so they don't have to worry about how to store the opened cans (and hope they have a fridge to keep it cold). But I would expect they come across with finicky eaters all the time.  But I don't have any experience. My puppers are spoiled with in house grandma care :o)
  • I would just bring the cans and the dry food separately. I think it would just really yucky if you mixed it ahead of time. There should be no problem with them mixing it. They need to give dogs meds, etc., so this would not be a big deal.

  • i would just take the cans with you and tell them the situation when you arrive.  i am sure kennels get weird requests all the time.

Daisy is a very picky eater (she can't eat with her collar on bc she gets scared of the noise it makes on her bowls, she likes to spread her food all over the floor, etc)

sometimes she doesn't eat for 2 days at the kennel and then she binges at home ;)

  • Chiming in late, but my picky little Gracie has to have wet food mixed in with hers, too.  we've only had to use a kennel twice, but they had no problem with me bringing them in separately, then they just made a note to add in a spoonful of wet food to each of her meals.
