PA Hospital Moms
Can you do the tour without the childbirth classes? If so, who do you contact to set one up?
Also, if you don't spend the money on the Pavilion, can DH still stay with you overnight, even if it's in a chair? Is he allowed to come and go as he pleases at anytime? If they tell him no, I can def see him hiding in the shower when visiting hours are over because I know he won't take no for an answer.
I have been looking for answers on the hospital's website but can't seem to find any.

We did the Pavillion for number two --- it is the only way to fly at that madhouse!
There are now Pavillion rooms on the fifth floor in maternity. They are old double rooms which have been reconfigured. Which means less beds total in the ward, and therefore pretty much everyone else is doubled up unless you luck into one of the handful single rooms still left -- like literally a few.
When I had DS2 they were full -- none of this "you go into a double and don't get a roommate stuff" they claim. The nurses laughed when I asked about that.
You make a reservation for the Pavillion based on your due date. I went early, and the Pavillion was actually full my first night. They keep a regular double room where you don't have a roommate for such situations, and don't charge you that night.
I was moved the next day. The towels and amenities are better, but whatever. The food is a lot better, but that's not hard. You get three meals, plus you can just call any other time for anything. DH gets dinner one night, but can pay for food any other time. They comped his meal one night because it was late.
I truly do no even comprehend how two people can share a double there -- the rooms are not big. There is no way two patients and two babies can fit comfortably, let alone visitors. No to mention sharing a bathroom post childbirth is disgusting.

You do not have to book a private room, but it is a popular hospital so take your chances with caution.
We lucked out and had a room to ourselves for 3 nights, 4 days during a fairly busy week in June. DH slept on a fold out bed/chair.
I echo PP in that sharing a room would have been terrible. I'm not sure how it could have been done.
I do know if you make a reservation, you "trump" anyone who just decides they want a Pavillion room when they get there, even if it isn't your due date.
I have no clue what happens if they can't move you over the course of your stay, but the Pavillion is super popular -- they keep making more rooms to accomodate, which of course means more and more people squeezed into the other rooms.
It's kind of shitty, to be honest. Really, you should be able to get room to recover and a bathroom with only your own blood in it along with some half way decent food no matter who you are without paying $400 a night for it. we had our own reasons for delivering there, but still, it is ridiculous.
No problem! You reserve the room with a credit card, but they do not charge it until the day you leave.
FWIW, my charge hit the day of discharge, but I still haven't received my regular hospital bill.
Also, the chocolate cake is seriously amazing!
This is totally off topic but isn't hospital billing ridiculous? I felt like I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop when all of our bills were pending and i had 2 forms of insurance. It took forever for it to be finalized by insurance and I even got an EOB from our insurance company about a modified payment a few months ago - a year and a half after L was born.
