Teenager Christmas Presents?!?

DH's younger brother and sister are teenagers now and I have absolutely no idea what to buy them for Christmas. His brother is in 9th grade and loves football and hunting but everything he wants is too expensive for us to get him (we have 20 immediate family members to buy for so price is limited!). His sister is 12 (not a teenager but close enough) and quite bratty so the snarky part of me doesn't want to buy her anything because she's so rude but that's just my b*tchy side coming out. Anyways, neither DH or I really know what she is into and she won't give us any suggestions so I turn to you ladies. I could just slip them each a $20 and call it good but that might appear tacky. What would your younger self want for Christmas this year??

  • Do they have an iPod? My teenage goddaughters like iTunes gift cards or mall gift certificates.

  • My oldest nephew is 15. He goes to Burger King a lot with his friends because its within walking distance from his house. We always get him a BK gift card and an iTunes gift card. It's probably really lame but the things he wants are so darn expensive!

Could you do something like that? Is there a store they like a lot? Or do thy go to the movies a lot?

  • I agree with Gift cards or money! :)

  • Could you asked your mother in law for some ideas or stores they like?  Music is generally a good things for all teenagers.  For the boy how about a new football? A football from is favorite team? Something from his favorite team? Or depending on were his lives tickets for H and him to go to a game?  Are either of them into games?  A game for the game system or a gamestop gift card.

  • I agree with gift cards. I would ask MIL for help pointing you in the right direction of stores. For her what about a gift certificate for a mani/pedi all girls like to be pampered no matter their age. And for him maybe find out his favorite team and you could get something of there's like a football or jersey or tshirt.
  • I agree with the ladie above, I'd go gift cards for both of them. If you don't know what she's into, I'd get just a general mall gift card for her, and for him something to a hunting store, or a sports store...

  • I think attempting to buy presents for a teenager is a bad idea.

I have 4 nephews/cousins who are middle school age - I bought them all a $25 Best Buy gift card and a box of candy so they still have something to unwrap.  Simple - easy for me and who doesn't like gift cards?

  • I hate buying gift cards. I personally never use them and I think gifting a gift card is a total cop out. I would probably get the boy targets for practice shooting and the younger girl something neutral like fuzzy socks. I'm just totally against gift cards :-/

Thats, in my opinion, the best option for teenagers. There's so many options at BB (movies, cds, ipod accessories, video games etc.) for them to choose from. I remember as a teen people would get me crap I didn't need when all I wanted was a GC so I could pick out what I wanted.

  • I'm with the majority on this one. GIft cards are always the best route to take. That's what I do to. I do like the idea of the gift card to the mall. What teenager doesn't spend a crazy amount of time and money at the mall?
