Class gifts?

So now I have to think of a small gift or bag of stuff for dd's 10 classmates. Do you all do this? What do you give? I gave Mini play Doh and a couple other things for halloween and most of the moms did more than me. Suggestions, please?

Re: Class gifts?

  • I order the $1 book special from the Scholastic flyer for each kid (baby room) then for the toddler room, I personalized a snack cup/sippy cup thing from the Dollar Tree.

  • At our center.... I did a nice little bag for halloween for each kid and I was the only one. Yet I remember the year before she got all kinds of treat bags. So really I think whatever you want to do is fine. I send in gifts for the teachers and got $1 hand sanitizers from B&BW for all the workers (25 total). I do not plan to send something in for each kid in her class. Her birthday is the end of December and one of her last days before vacation we take treats in anyway. Just my experience.
  • Their classrooms have holiday parties and we bring in a snack. We don't do gifts thankfully!!  I think the only holiday we pass out individual things is Valentines day (usually do playdoh)

  • I'm still undecided on whether or not I'm doing class gifts.  Our daycare is doing a book exchange for their Christmas party.  Everyone brings in a book $5.00 or less, wrapped and labeled, "From:Child's name" so they don't get their own book.  I think it's a great idea.

For halloween I did orange cups with jack-o-lantern faces drawn on them, stickers, tatoos, candy and glow sticks.

If I do do a Christmas treat, I'll probably go with something small--stickers again, maybe coloring books.

  • I do the same thing w/ the Scholastic books.
  • ugh didnt even think of this either....I didnt send a treat for halloween, but I did make the cupcakes for the decorating craft/snack so I didnt feel so bad! Smile

Ditto - except I send in treats for Halloween as well.

I'm not getting started with the Christmas thing too.

  • For Halloween, I made treats for daycare and bypassed bags comepletely (and was probably the only one that didn't do a treat bag!). I did nothing for Kindergarten. In fact, I was surprised that there were maybe 3-4 kids who did do something for their classmates! For Christmas, I'm not planning on doing anything - I have enough to think about this month! I won't feel guilty about Kindergarten, because we all gave $10/kid to the homeroom Moms for holiday parties throughout the year. For daycare, I just don't have the energy and frankly, we get more candy and "junk" that I don't know if I want to contribute too. I know, very Grinch-like of me this year!

I feel very grinchy when it comes to the junky treatbag stuff. Little things of bubbles (that never work!), cheap plastic toys, etc. usually go straight to the garbage at my house. Then I feel guilty about it. I try to give things that can be used and then tossed. tattoos, stickers, coloring pages, food, etc. I just hate clutter and things that end up laying all over my house because they dont have a home.

Thank you for letting me know I am not alone with being a grinch! Both my kids have four parties a yr. in their classes (Halloween, x-mas, v-day, Easter) and between all of them, I am tired of buying all these treat bags for each party. I feel awful that I feel this way. Not only that, but I just found out our school made a "list" of what teachers like - so you could buy giftcards that are appropriate to their liking. I was shocked! With that, I am ready to get the teachers horrible x-mas mugs that say #1 teacher. Sigh... but I am sure I will do the polite thing and probably make a little treat bag for each kid.
