Is this a dumb teacher gift?

There are 2 of the kid's teachers who are moms themselves. The infinity scarf/nailpolish gifts I got for their other teachers don't seem to fit the bill for them. I picked up a few copies of the Lorax when amazon had them on sale and was planning on putting them in a popcorn bowl with some gourmet popcorn seasonings. Now I'm second guessing myself. Thoughts? Ideas? Recs on where I can find gourmet popcorn seasoning?

Re: Is this a dumb teacher gift?

  • It's definitely a nice idea. Maybe Le Gourmet Chef or other Kitchen store might have the popcorn seasoning. I would just be worried they might have already received the Lorax or purchased it for the children. But, maybe you shouldn't worry about that and give a gift receipt to exchange for another DVD.
  • I think it is a great teacher gift! I was stressing on what to give my teachers too. What is the going rate these days on spending. My daughter is in kindergarden so I am new at this. Another mom I talked to is refusing to buy teacher gifts because she believes the perks teachers have that make their holidays extra special: ie they get a ton of gifts from students, how they are able to keep them (in healthcare field if a patients gives a gift, the workers have to decline it) and how lucky they are to have all the holidays off, etc, It was kind of crazy how she was going off about it...
  • Even though I'm a mother, I would prefer a scarf and nailpolish as a gift over a copy of the Lorax.  But, I'm selfish like that.  It's a gift for me, and I still like things for me - not just things for my kids.   But, you know these women, so if you think they'd prefer something like this, then it's a nice gift.

    Ditto.

Of course, I don't really give gifts to teachers. We usually take in donuts and OJ, and then I get her main teacher a gift card.

ditto emmy dittoing amber. But I often give cash, a card, and a sweet treat. But I like the idea of a scarf and polish.  I figure cash is always welcome though, and daycare teachers are with my kid more than I am during the week. They deserve a little extra. hahahaha

  • Ditto (x5?) the others...if I were getting a gift for me, I would prefer something like an infinity scarf and nail polish vs. a kid/family geared gift. That being said, I don't know a lot about our teacher's personal interest's or styles, so we usually stick with gift cards.

  • I definitely am going to rethink this. I'm confident in the scarves nailpolish gifts for 3 of the teachers. I don't know Nolan's new teacher very well since he just moved to that room. And Brinley's other teacher is very jeans and t-shirts. For whatever reason I'm struggling with gift ideas for everyone this year. I generally prefer not to give gift cards.

ditto everyone! And like Amanda we don't do a "gift". i dont think we have done straight cash but we do gift cards (mall or dunkin donuts, etc) and last year we brought in donuts and coffee from dunkin.

  • Giant eagle (at least ours) just expanded the popcorn seasonings....you really don't need a gourmet set as I've found those aren't as good as the regular ones (Kernel Seasons they are yellow with different colored cap).  Love the caramel and nacho abd white cheddar one!   We have a big machine and have all of that line

  • For daycare, since there are 3 teachers and the director, I asked last year if they did a lunch/dinner that I could contribute to. The director brings in Olive Garden and they do a lunch at the Center, so I gave them a gift card to put towards that. Most likely we'll do the same this year.

For DS's Kindergarten teacher, we're going to give her a gift card to GE (then she can buy any gift card she wants). We already gave her a Target card for Thanksgiving. I also bought her a Lenox teacher ornament. For the two aides, I bought a Lenox snowflake ornament for each and will give a small gift card of some sort.
