Charity Donations

I usually donate to different charities each year (throughout the year) but esp. during the holidays. Since I get a gazillion letters and pamphlets, just curious who you all may donate to during the holidays? Mine will include some for children at the local receiving home this year as well as my standard animal charity donations. Just wanted to see what other worthy causes are out there :-)

Re: Charity Donations

  • Donating blood or plasma during Thanksgiving/ Christmas/ New Year is important. People get into all sorts of craziness that could require needing blood. That's the only thing we try to do throughout the year.

Food bank and/or Meals on Wheels is a good place to donate food or money.

  • We do united way during the year at work, so I pick a few different charities there. At Christmas time my office (which consists of 14 people) raises money for kids through a church that won't have a Christmas. We usually raise about $500, and then get 5 kids. This year, my boss said if we could raise $500 again, he would match $500. So we got 10 kids this year to sponsor! I picked 2 to shop for (a 15 & 12 year old girl, I think sisters). So I've been all over the Justin Bieber & One Direction stuff, haha.. two of their 'favorites'.

  • I haven't been to church for awhile, but when I was going...my church does a program called Angel Tree. It's where one or both of the kids parents are in prison. Someone picks an angel off of the tree and goes and buys that gift and wraps it. My family would always pick 2 or 3 angels off of the tree. I'll donate to things occaisionally. We gave our old neighbor money for American Cancer Society last month. I did a lot more volunteering/donating back in high school than I do now. I need to get back into it...

  • The local humane society is our big one. We also volunteer to deliver Christmas hampers and we volunteer for a local charity that drives people home in their cars (to keep drunk drivers off the roads).
  • Those are all great charities as well and sound like they do wonderful things. I think I may help the Puppies in Prison program this year too - it's a program where prisoners help teach rehabilitation dogs for people like veterans that have post-traumatic stress and such. Ugh - so hard to pick who to give to as there are so many causes :) Happy Holidays all!
  • Our household donates to the food pantry, toys for tots, makes care packages for the military, and donates to the leukemia society.

I used to be big into actively volunteering.  I might look into that again...maybe do habitat for humanity or something that the husband, our son, and I can all do as a family.

  • I do Salvation Army throughout the year. I also usually get gifts for Toys for Tots. I wish I had the energy to volunteer more, but maybe in the future I will get back into it.
