I know this question is probably silly, but how far in advance of your LO arrival did you have your nursery completed? The room we are using only needs some plaster repair/skimming, painting and trim put up. We had an estimate done by the person who has done work for us in the past and is reasonable and reliable. He told us he won't be able to start the work until probably February, and I am due at the end of that month. The room would have to be completely empty while the work is done. We don't have a place to put the furniture, so we'd have to wait for the room to be finished to get the furniture and set it up/put it together. Both DH and my mom think I am making a big deal out of this, but I kind of wanted the room completed by February so I wouldn't have anything major to do other than maybe wash baby clothes and put them away. Plus, you never know when babies decide to arrive. Am I just being hormonal?
Re: Nursery
My little nuggets
I would want it done earlier as well because I hate having things hanging over me to get done. But in reality, you will likely have about a month to get the room ready before baby arrives and thats enough time IMO....especially if you clear a weekend in early February to get the room ready and enlist some help.
You can also take some stress off by doing as much as possible ahead of time--get wall hangings framed and ready, wash and fold laundry, put together baby gear etc--and by buying furniture from a store that delivers and sets up for you so all you have to do is load in the small stuff. A couple people could tackle those smaller things in a few hours.
FWIW, I still have empty frames hanging on DD2s walls because I havent gotten around to printing the photos/prints to put in them!
Also don't feel pressure to have a fully-decorated nursery by the time your LO arrives. I feel like there's pressure on pinterest, the bump, etc. to have it "perfect."
Leave some room for frames/art b/c after LO arrives, you may want to frame some pics and their artwork when they're toddlers.
I'm not sure what you plan to do, but I was all freaked out about getting the crib in time, and it did arrive and mr Nobooze put it together during my shower. Then we ended up not using it for 2.5 months because she was in a bassinet in our room. A lot of people seem to use the bassinet a lot longer than we did, so basically you don't have to worry about the crib for months.
On the other hand the painting and stuff is so much better to have done before. Dry wall dust from patching and sanding just gets everywhere. If your guy can't do it earlier maybe he can recommend someone who can?
