  • I have no words. I would be livid!

"Congrats on the new addition to the family, I'm happy for you guys. However, I want you to know that I think it was very inappropriate for you all to name the animal the same exact name you use to refer to my daughter. I'm quite sure that none of you had any intentions of insulting my family or our daughter, but I can't imagine how anyone would feel that using that name would be acceptable for the dog, especially since you guys are her aunt and uncle."

I can't believe he kept it so nice. I would have said MUCH worse.

At least it gets the point across.

Oh yeah. And the way he said it was probably best...but I don't know that I could have held back like that. Kudos to him!
  • His message sounded good. Me...speechless. Who does that??

  • SIL messaged back that she was "unaware" that pets and family members are not allowed to share named and that she has had a lot on her plate right now and that she will ask the kids to choose a different name in the morning. Whatever. Who does that.

I mean really, just add that to the list of things she is unaware of!

  • How old are the kids?  I could see if it was a more common name...My cousins named there cat John after a character in a movie.  Its also my dads name.

  • Wow. I would have been furious. That is totally inappropriate. Come on SIL, there is no rule per se, but its a common sense and a respect issue. It never passed through your mind when your children suggested the same name as your neice for your new dog? I dont give a sh!t if you have the world on your plate, you are an adult and know better. How disrespectful! How do you guys get along other wise?

They are 9 and 11, there really is no excuse. H said he doesnt really care about the name hes just embarrassed that his family would be that dumb to not think that its a bit inappropriate. Even knucklehead MIL didnt step in and say anything and they all live together.

Our relationship otherwise is normal, we usually talk on the holidays or or we just want to check in to say hi but other then that we dont really talk. H's family was never one to be close. One BIL we hear from once a year if were lucky and he only lives 2 hours away.

  • Wow... I am so sorry! I would be very offended if my sister/brother in law named any animal the same name as my daughter. But really... who does that?!? And then thinks it's ok..
  • The dogs name is now Mia
