Anyone have these? DD got them for Christmas last year and we immediately took the markers away because I didn't feel she could be responsible with them. They were unearthed the other day and I let her play with them.
The ink from the "dry erase" markers never dries! She put them on the shelf in her kitchen, and more than 24 horus later Nolan pulled them down and was covered in green "icing". What's even worse is that these apparently aren't very washable. I scrubbed and scrubbed his hands and face and he still had a faint green ring around his mouth.
I checked the reviews on Amazon and it's mentioned that the markers are not ideal, but people still gave it a high rating.

UPDATE: I emailed Melissa and Doug CS after this incident. Within a day they emailed me back asking to call me to discuss. They assured me that the markers are thoroughly tested and non-toxic and asked me to send them the batch number from the toy. She asked me to pick out another toy for DD and with the toy they'd send me a shipping label so that I could send the markers to them so they can test them to see what is happening. They also offered to send DS a toy since he was the "victim". AWESOME CS. I didn't ask for any of that. I really just emailed them thinking they would want to know. They're sending DD this http://www.melissaanddoug.com/scoop-stack-ice-cream-cone-playset and DS this http://www.melissaanddoug.com/stacking-cars-baby-toddler-toys
Re: UPDATE:Melissa and Doug cupcakes
I'm going to try the regular washable markers on them, and if that doesn't work, I'll probably only let her decorate them with stickers.
I think this was the first Melissa and Doug toy I was disappointed with.
Madeline fell in love with these cupcakes at Pottery Barn Kids. I ordered them from Amazon and just removed the icing markers. She has a blast just using the other parts. Problem solved. She did get a ton of marker on her from just holding the already "iced" cupcakes in the PBK store.
We did just buy the Melissa and Doug Sounds shape puzzle and half the time the sounds do not work. I'm going to contact M&D since I have never had an issue with one of their toys being defective.
Wow that is great customer service! I have no doubts they are non toxic but they definitely are messy!
by the way dd loves the M&D ice cream cones!
