This year has been rough for my husband and I and learning to live together and move beyond our faults has been challenging, but we are working through it. He lost his job about 3 months ago and just found a part time one, so since money is super tight from trying to just pay our household expenses, we are doing homemade gifts. I was thinking of making bath fizzies and sugar scrubs for all the women, but the men I'm just at a loss. We have his father who has everything you can think of, and a few of his friends in their twenties. Any ideas?
Re: Homemade gifts this year
Baked goods - cookies, bread.
Maybe some food in a jar type stuff. http://www.mixesinajar.com/ has a TON, google brings up a bunch of websites. Mixes in a jar might be really good for the younger guys, especially if they're single and probably don't cook for themselves very much.
I'm making those tie-together fleece blankets for all of our nieces and nephews this year. Everyone likes a throw blanket to curl up on the couch when it's cold and icky outside, right?
A couple of years ago I made mix CDs for a music-loving friend. I folded handmade CD cases origami style with pretty craft paper and made her a set of 6 or so mixes.
I have a friend who makes home made Bailey's, and also some friends who infuse their own vodkas. I know in my group of friends, booze is always a hit (especially when we were in our 20s), and homemade booze is certainly a nicer gift than just picking up a bottle at the store. You could buy a huge handle of vodka, and then infuse and gift smaller bottles that you could probably get at the dollar store or craft store for pretty cheap.

I'm a stalker. An etsy stalker. It's an obsession. Or addiction. Or whatever.
we did pancakes in a jar last year (with cinnamon chips and chocolate chips!), and the family loved them (we of course had to try the recipe first before giving them as gifts -- just to make sure it was up to par!). It was really cheap considering you only used part of the ingredients (aka a bag of flour is easily split between ALL the gifts). You can find jars fairly cheap, and I cut out fabric circles to cover the lid and tied ribbon around top to make it decorative.
you could make/bottle your own bbq sauce, or any man-friendly food (my hubby seriously loves pancakes though). homemade cookies and treats are always good too. I feel like food/booze is a completely acceptable gift for a 20something. If someone gave me a box of cookies or fudge or something for christmas, i'd be happy...but maybe i'm just a food-lovin fatty. haha
