Have you visited with Santa yet?

Let's get this board moving today, people!! So, have you been to see Santa yet? If so, where? If not, are you planning on it and where are you going? I'm hoping to take the boys on Sunday to a local farm that is doing a simple (and free) visit with the big man.

Re: Have you visited with Santa yet?

  • I have not, but a week or so ago EJ expressed interest in actually seeing him this year. Up to this point I have not made any effort in making arrangements to see him because she had some intense fear of the whole thing. Like last year we were down town in Macy's on a Saturday morning and I said "look E, there is Santa...." and before I finished my thought she froze in place and was like 5 feet  behind me. so I may actually try to get her to one before the season is over.
  • Yes, we've seen him. My mom expressed interest in going to Phipps the day after Thanksgiving since they haven't been since I was in college. That is where we usually go to see Santa (the Santa there is AWESOME) and that was his first day. So we had a nice day out and got that accomplished. We extended the streak of only having one kid willing to sit on his lap - T wouldn't leave my arms. Maybe next year we'll get a picture of both kids with Santa...

I'm glad we went early because Todd had been non-committal about what he wanted, so that set his request in stone. ;-)

Phipps FYI - you do have to pay Phipps admission, but you can take as many pictures as you want, Santa takes his time with each kid, the train display and winter flowers are out and there are some kids activities around the center. Totally worth the money IMO for a nice family outing.

  • Your plan sounds nice, Clare. We will be visiting Santa at a party at Will's preschool on Saturday.

  • We have not yet but we're going to a township lunch with Santa party next weekend with some other families from daycare so I'm looking forward to that.

  • We did breakfast with Santa at Bravo last weekend (where of course Garrett knocked his hat off, so luckily he had a full wig on!).  We'll probably take them to see Santa at the mall in the next week or so too.  We have a few holiday plans coming up that I'm sure Santa will make an appearance at as well.  Both boys are really excited about Santa and not afraid of him this year, so I'm taking advantage of it!

We did happen to see Santa right before Thanksgiving at the mall - he was on his way to take a break from pictures and stopped to talk to Mason.  It was cool to see him unexpectedly walking through the mall, and that he stopped to talk!

  • We haven't yet (kind of not sure if we will). Claire's in a stage right now where she's really not into strangers, so I'm thinking a strange guy with a big beard/costume might equal huge meltdown. We'll see!
  • We did Phipps last year. It was a really nice family outing. Dh was disappointed that the Phipps Santa did not have a real beard. I would like to do the evening thing at Phipps this year; I think the lights would be really pretty. We are going to see Santa at the Robinson mall today. This is the first year that dd has actually wanted to go see him. She normally freaks if we get anywhere near him. So we shall see. The Robinson santa is the real deal. He speaks 7 different language including American Sign Language. And is driver's liscense says he is Santa.

  • We're going to a breakfast w/ Santa at our HS tomorrow. DD is excited. Not sure how DS will react. He says "ho ho" when he sees a Santa, but I doubt he'll be enthused about being handed to one in real life.
  • We went to our boro's light up night in November and saw Santa there.  Surprisingly, Brody sat on his lap this year, it's the first time ever!   We're also planning a day downtown, and we'll go to see the Santa at Oxford Center.  Last year, he was the only Santa who Brody would even let get close to him.  (He wouldn't sit on his lap, but did walk over and take a candy cane from him).
  • We went to the mall last weekend. Line wasn't bad at all. Man are there some sights though at the mall on a sunday of a later steeler game during the holidays. WOW. People watching at it's finest. DD is on a daycare field trip today with my mom on the Gateway Clipper santa cruise. Then next week santa comes to the daycare. Can't wait to hear what she says when each santa looks different. Ha. better formulate my answer now. Yes this board has been DEAD most of the week.... what are we all working?? Doing christmas errands? Ha.
  • we went to market square last weekend to see santa. it was a nice day out but it was sort of crowded. there was a line but it went pretty fast. you make a donation to the food bank and get a free pic with santa and you can use your own camera too.  santa asked my son to leave him some carrots out for his reindeer and he said 'no'.  probably the only kid in history who ever said no to the big man!!!!

we went to phipps last year and we were one of the first in line and it still took a while. the line was huge before we were even done and i'm sure those folks waited FOREVER since he does take a lot of time with each kid.

  • We have a wedding next weekend in Oglebay and there's a Santa breakfast there on Saturday morning, so we're taking Logan there. Should be interesting!!

  • I don't think we're going this year. I kind of feel bad--but the lines are atrocious and DD never asks so...I'm taking the easy way out. We are going to the Carnegie Science Center tomorrow for breakfast, a reading of "The Polar Express" by Mr. McFeely and then the Polar Express movie in the IMAX theatre. I think in the past my work offered a "Breakfast with Santa"--but are offering the Science Center outing instead,

  • I haven't and I most likely won't.  My kids just don't get the Santa concept yet.  Which is why trying to start elf on the shelf this year was a complete fail.  Oh well better luck next year.  Until then though I am making them watch every classic Christmas movie with Santa in it.....lol.
