Anyone traveled to any Arizona resorts?

Any recommendations on high end hotels/resorts?  The location does not matter right now as we are just looking.  We've never been there and would be traveling in Nov 2013.  We're not touristy much so just looking for a really nice hotel/resort with a pool etc and next to shops or some life if possible.  thanks!

Re: Anyone traveled to any Arizona resorts?

  • There are a few major areas for resorts- Scottsdale, Tuscon, Sedona. They are all very different. If you're going in November, though, Sedona would be too chilly, so I'd recommend staying in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. I live there and spent Thanksgiving at the Westin Kierland. It's right next door to a high end shopping area and many restaurants. Just up the road a bit and also close to stores in the Fairmont. Down a bit further south but near the Fashion Square is the Phoenician. Up in North Scottsdale is the Four Seasons or The Boulders. It's a bit removed from the more built up areas, though. It's gorgeous in that area, though.

  • thank you, this is very helpful  :)
  • The Phoenician (it is not that far from Old Town Scottsdale that a mall, shops, restaurants, bars)

W Scottsdale (walking distance to the mall, shops, restaurants, and bars)

JW Marriott at Desert Ridge (when I stayed there for a conference they had a shuttle that would take you to the Desert Ridge Marketplace with some shops, restaurants, and bars)

The Sanctuary at Camelback Mountain (would need a rental car to get to things, but the location is very peaceful and we went to the restaurant there called Elements when we lived in Arizona)

  • Every year, my girlfriends and I stay at the Waldorf Biltmore. We LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it.  We usually go in August, so it is super hot (which we love) and not many people are around. The rooms are beautiful and there are two fantastic restaurants on property.  The spa is pretty spectacular too but really pricey. Sign up for ALL of their emails - you can get some great deals. For instance, the massage I was wanting was $155, but I recieved an email about a "local's special" and got the massage for $65.
  • Another vote for the Phoenician! I lived in Phoenix for a couple of years and have traveled back to AZ a dozen or so times, and the Phoenician is still my absolutely favorite resort in AZ! It's gorgeous, romantic, and has an excellent location.

The Hyatt at Gainey Ranch is also wonderful, as is the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, though they are a bit further from some of the central shopping and restaurant areas. The JW Marriott Camelback Inn is also very nice, and often a bit less pricey than the others.
