Home Decor

The fiance and I are trying to save on home improvement costs.  Paint was a hard hit to the wallets and didn't know if you had any ideas to save on small projects around the house while decorating.

Re: Home Decor

  • I think if you have your house warming party after you guys are settled in a lot of people will be giving you housewarming gifts. Most people will ask around (to the moms) what kind of stuff you guys need and if you spread the word that your house is a work in progress many people will give you gift cards to Home Depot and Lowes. I will be willing to bet you might get some for Christmas too.
  • I'd wait for buying up a bunch of stuff since you're getting married.  I got a ton of stuff at my bridal shower and wedding.

Just buy things here and there when they are on sale, etc.  It doesn't have to be fully decorated ASAP.  I've been in my house since June 2011 and I still have an empty front room, and things I want to change.

Agreed. We got a ton of stuff for our wedding shower.

We've been in our house for 3 years now and there's still stuff that I wish we had updated or changed. You don't have to get everything done right away.

  • and its sometimes nice to wait a bit and decorate over time. the longer you live in the house the more you'll know what you really need and want in certain areas

This! And when your register, you don't just have to register for silverware and dishes. You can register at Lowes or something. For projects, just space them out and budget before you start. Don't feel like you have to get everything done at once!

another vote for taking your time.  And with a housewarming & wedding, hopefully you will receive cash or gift cards to use for your projects.
