Meghan&Rich

I saw in yor post below that your mom just had a knee replacement.  Can I pry and ask how the recovery was for her?  My mom had hers done on Monday and is in SO much pain.  I'd love to be able to offer her some encouragement about a light at the end of the tunnel.

Re: Meghan&Rich

  • My mom had hers replaced two weeks ago - she has been doing really well.  The physical therapy is really painful, but she is otherwise feeling good.  The first few days were rough, she was pretty uncomfortable, and was really bothered by the side effects of the anesthesia and pain meds.  I want to say by the end of the first week things started to improve for her.  Her swelling has gone down a lot and she just moved from a walker to a cane. My mom was really anticipating the worst (I think she was focusing on some horror stories), so I think she is surprised at how "good" she is doing now, but is still a little concerned about what's to come.  If I can think of anything else, I will let you know.  Good luck to your mom, I hope she is feeling better soon!
  • *butting in* I've always heard that the beginning is the worst. My neighbor (late 50s) had both of her knees done at the same time, at the advice of her doc. This was over two years ago. While I know the first couple of weeks were rough with therapy, it got better with time (I was unemployed at the time, so I took her to a few of her sessions). Today, you wouldn't even know she had it done!

Good luck to both of your Moms as they heal!

  • Thanks for the insight  ladies!  I figured it would be really rough in the first few weeks--but that's great news that your mom is up and about already Meghan!

And both done at the same time, Clare--yikes!

  • Wow, getting both done must have been tough!  My mom will need both done, but is doing one at a time.  I just got off the phone with her now, and she was going up and down steps with her physical therapist, so she is definitely improving each day.
