I was recently reading a "Country" magazine that was profiling scenic roads in the USA. One area profiled a road in Michigan - the article started with the author enjoying breakfast in a small diner in Empire, Michigan. The waitress recommended the scrapple. I'd never heard of it before but am always game to try something new - especially if I can make it myself. I did a little research and came across this old thread (http://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/28493961.aspx). Sounds like Scrapple is a love-hate food. Since the old thread originated here, I thought I'd ask if anyone had a recipe and/or photo for scrapple. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: What's Scrapple
Ew, I definitely wouldn't make it. Isn't it just made from meat scraps congealed together?

As my stepdad says, it's everything from the pig but the oink. It's basically pig scraps (head, organs, other unused scraps) combined with flour, spices and cornmeal. Then it's formed into a grey loaf, where it is sliced and pan-fried. People either eat it with ketchup or syrup.
I have never tried it because it just looks disgusting, not to mention I know what's in it.

Baahahaha. I think it's hilarious that your curiosity led you here and you went so far to create an account with the screen name of "WhatsScrapple". Amazinng!
Now to answer your question...ewww, it's gross, don't eat it! Not that I've actually tried it but I never would because of what goes in to making it.
nom nom nom, i flippin love scrapple, but it has to be nice and crispy (ie. d@mn near burnt)
I agree with Erbur, must done in a skillet, not deep fried. That being said, I like to mush mine while its cooking so every bit is crispy. I like it with syrup or plain.
It really is a love/hate/from Philadelphia food.
