Please help me with my 3 1/2 year old's sleep issues
If you would have told me 3 years ago that my daughter wouldn't be sleeping through the night now I would have laughed at you. Seriously, she wakes up 2, 3, 4 times a night! She has turned into an insomniac. She has not been taking naps either. I've tried telling her that "I need my blankets fixed." or "I'm not tired" are not good reasons to wake Mommy up at night time. By the time morning comes we are both pretty cranky and that doesn't help anything.
I'm hoping that it's Christmas related and when all the excitement is over she will sleep again. But she's gone through phases like this before, which makes me think it might be some else.
Re: Please help me with my 3 1/2 year old's sleep issues
I wish I had advice for you, but I rememebr Gavin going through something similar just shy of 3 yrs (and about 3 months before Conall was born). We chalked it up to the holidays, changes happening in the house (including me being laid off), etc. etc. He finally got back into a good sleep pattern.
Conall has made a couple of random visits to us recently - like last night where he came in chattering away, bright eyed and bushy tailed. DH took him back to bed and thankfully he didn't come back out, so I'm not sure what that was all about!
Hang in there - it does sound like another phase. Since she's not napping, would going to bed a little earlier (even 15 minutes) maybe help?
My three sons!
Was she a good sleeper before? If so it sounds like just a phase. I'd keep being firm about telling her she needs to go back to sleep. For my dd I would avoid cosleeping because it absolutely will lead to a bad habit with her in a heartbeat. Dd goes through these phases here and there and we just keep putting her back in her room and telling her she needs to stay in there and not wake us up.
another thing you could try is a wake up clock. We got one awhile ago when dd was going through a bad phase. You set a wake up time and it turns green at that time so you tell them they have to stay in their room and can't get up until its green. It works really well when we are consistent with it
She was in bed by 8pm but didn't go to sleep until almost 10 last night. I guess I should I be thankful that she doesn't leave her room. I was wondering if one of those clocks would work.
dd definitely goes through phases like this. Our feeling is that we can't make her sleep. As long as dd stays in her room then we just accept it. It sucks if she is tired but we just hope that in the long run she'll adjust back because she is more tired
Adam has always been a rough sleeper, but probably about 3 that GOING to bed was a fight. Ultimatly i decided to move bed time from 8-9 because all we did in that hour was fight anyway. It really made a huge difference. He was READY by 9 and gave no fight at all! It has mostly stayed that way.
FWIW he had woke between 7 and 7:30 for the day NO MATTER WHAT time he goes to bed always and gave up naps totally by 18 months.
