Apartment Question??
Doesn't really go with this thread but I didn't know where else to post this. My husband and I are getting our first apartment and I'm trying to come up with a list of things we will need but I'm drawing a blank! We are supposed to move in Jan. 12, so we have time to get things ( We're planning to shop after Christmas if I can get him to go. He hates shopping, but thinks anything I get will be to girly) The problem is I cannot think of anything we need. It's so overwhelming. Please help...?

Wait on decor items until youmove in and see what the lighting is like. Also wait on things that go inside the pantry or closets like trash cans since you don't know the dimensions of the space and might end up with something too big.
For utility items:
1. Step stool.
2. Shower caddy for over the shower head.
3. Shower liner (you can wait on the curtain) and rings. Get a long tpye so you can be sure it will go deep enough into the tub.
4. Key rings for your new keys.
5. Toilet paper, paper towels, plastic utensils for move-in day when everything else is in boxes.
6. Fire extinguisher - ABC/multi-purpose.
7. Renters insurance (if a disaster occurs in the building, the landlord's insurance will cover that damage to the building structure and components. However, they will not cover any of your items that get damaged (clothing, electronics, valuables, food, decor items, etc.. You need renter's insurance for this. It's like home owner's insurance, but for people who rent apartments or houses.)
trash can, vacuum, mop, broom (bucket, rags and cleaning solution) bathroom supplies
entry mats/rugs
Make sure the smoke detector batteries are working, the fire extinguisher is available, air filters are clean and heater's working properly or contact maintenance right away. I would also request pest service, usually free or included on your rent. Cleaning supplies, plates/cups, toilet paper, paper towels, curtains and dining table and couch would be first on my list.
I like to prep a couple boxes/items that are WELL LABELED and kept easy to get to for things I need the first couple days:
Anything I'd need for a weekend getaway including clothes for 2-3 days (I usually use a suitcase for this). Also remember a towel.
A box of basic kitchen stuff (some cups, plates, forks, napkins, paper towels) as well as bathroom stuff (toilet paper, being top!)
That way once you are moving all your boxes and big stuff in you can function for those first days while you start to unpack.
For purchases, the PP hit most of it. Wait until you have your place, then a quick run through somewhere like Bed, Bath & Beyond or Target can hook you up with those basics.
