Hi ladies! I need some advice.
My firm has agreed to let me come back part-time after my maternity leave so that I can get a hold on balancing life as a new mother and working in a busy firm. They let me pick my own hours so I chose to work 3 days a week with the option of 4 or 5 days during especially busy weeks (trials, briefs, etc. etc.).
Now here's my question: If I work Tuesday through Thursday, money will be a little tight. But if I work Monday through Thursday, we will be about as comfortable as we are now with me working Monday through Friday. The difference in daycare cost is very minimal - $30 less a week for part time.
What would you do? Work three days a week and spend four days at home with your newborn - even though that makes money tight. Or work four days a week and have three days at home with the baby - and be comfortable financially.
PS I have no idea why this is bolded. I can't get the bold off. Sorry!
Re: WWYD - Work related
I think all the original posts are bold now.
I would probably work 3 days a week at first just to get settled back into things, I would rather have more time with the kid and less money.
Exactly what I would do. Are you salary or hourly? Can you work 3-10s if you're hourly? Then you're *only* losing 10 hr/wk...

I would do the 3 days. You will find ways to budget and save money. Could you switch to 4 if needed?
I am very conflicted feelings about it. I have been on the strapped financially end and it stressed me out to no end. But then I also was lucky enough to be able to stay home for 10 months with Chase. Today, I would never do it. I couldnt emotionally handle the stress of a newborn and a cut in salary. But thats just me.
I think if you can figure ways to cut other things down in your budget, and can emotionally handle the financial cut I would do it. Its not a long term thing so you can always look at that as your light at the end of the tunnel.
Call you cable company and see if they can set you up on a cheaper bundle package. I did this and dropped $50 off our bill. Call your cell company and see if you can change your plan if you arent using all your minutes or data allowance. I did this and dropped $30 off our bill. Try menu planning and only buying groceries that you need for those meals to save money on food. Drop your heat by a few degrees. All those things combined will help out.
We did it, just because we realized how much of our resources we flat out waste and does make a difference.
This is exactly why I asked. I'm the same way. Hmm.... decisions. I think I might leave it at 3 days a week and then see how I feel about it after he makes his debut.
