Has anyone done countertops locally?
We need to think about what we want to do w/ our counters in our kitchen. We went with the base level Formica b/c I didn't like the granite options, but we have always planned on replacing it. I think I'm going to do butcher block on the island, and then corian or quartz on the rest of the counters, but it's still up in the air.
If you've replaced your counters, who did you use and what material?
Re: Has anyone done countertops locally?
I don't really have local recs since we aren't in the area. My parents redid their kitchen and my dad did everything himself but the counters and went with lowes.
as for material we went with corian. Dh really liked the no seams and the no seam sink. We looked at quartz and while it has benefits we didn't like any of the colors and were swayed by the no seam of corian. So far we really like it. I saw it delivered in 2 pieces. If I hadn't seen that I wouldn't have believed it because there is absolutely no seam. The no seam sink is awesome! Love it since there is nowhere for dirt to get trapped. Another benefit is it is easily sanded if its damaged. Our contractor scratched it while putting up our backsplash and it was fixed pretty quickly/easily.
my parents chose quartz and like it although they don't like the look of the seam but its not a huge issue.
We don't have them yet--but we've done some research and decided on Cambria Quartz. I prefer the look of quartz over granite--and like that it's non-porous, highly scratch resistant and is low maintanance.
Here is our pick: http://www.cambriausa.com/en/our-collection/design-palette/Canterbury/
I saw it in person at a place in Bridgeville. We're still working on getting quotes from different suppliers, but found the best resouce in finding dealers was on Cambria's website.
we used Troy Granite to replace our countertops this past winter. We also have the no seam undermount sinks and I love them!
we had a pretty good experience with Troy and I would recommend them. They guarantee a 10 day turnaround process from when you sign the contract.... they installed everything within 8 hours on a day that I worked from home. Walking into that place is pretty crazy - you basically are walking into a warehouse with 100s of slabs of beautiful granite - you actually get to pick out your pieces and tell them where to cut it.
i would not rec going to Home Depot or Lowes, etc. You can get so much more for your $$ elsewhere.
See, I was definitely thinking HD or Lowes b/c I don't know where else to go!
last post-- promise-- but neighbors used Manor House Granite for their quartz countertops about the time we did ours. They had a good experience with also.

My parents contractor used Custom Marble and Granite

She has been really happy with them. She had an issue about a year after they were installed and they come back and repaired the granite at no charge.
We are doing butcher block, but we got ours at Ikea so that is probably no help.
I do want to do butcher block on the island! I was thinking Ikea for that... I've heard good things.
We went with it because it is actually on of the cheapest options plus we like the look with the white cabinets. If the kitchen ever gets done, then I will take pictures. It was super reasonable, I think 10 ft was $150, maybe even less.
