Baby Bottle Question

During the whole registry procees, I remember seeing something about baby bottles possibly causing colic and switching the bottles to a different brand helping with the issue.  My niece is using Tommy Tippee bottles. Before I give advice, anyone ever deal with this before and would a bottle switch be a good idea?  Any particular brand?

Re: Baby Bottle Question

  • Well I know depending on the bottle and how the particular baby drinks, some bottles make reflux better or worse.  Not sure how that relates, or not, to colic.

My daughter did have reflux, we personally used Dr. Brown bottles and liked them for reflux.

  • We use Dr Brown's bottles, too.  DD does well with them...though they have so many darn parts to clean.

  • We had a mix of Dr. Brown's and Avent bottles.  The Dr. Brown's definitely reduced spit up, but then again my kid was a happy spitter for the first, oh, 7 or so months of his life, ha.

Cleaning the Dr. Brown's bottles is a PITA, but the dishwasher baskets are a lifesaver.

Yeah, I don't think I would have used Dr. Brown's bottles if I didn't have a dishwasher.  Pop all the parts in a basket and same as a regular bottle.

  • Thanks ladies!

  • We used Tommee Tippee with Oliver and he liked them. This time, I'm going to start out with the medela bottles that come with the pump, and then see how things go. We were really happy with Tommee Tippee but I may pick up some Dr. Browns after hearing so many good things about them reducing spit-up, reflux, etc.

(For those who pumped...do dr browns bottles attach to medela pumps? Most likely I'll be pumping exclusively with this little boy since he'll be in the hospital for the first few weeks at least and potentially not able to breastfeed.)

I am 99% sure the Dr. Brown's fit right on to my Medela pump.

They fit on my hospital pump.
