My Grandmother's in the hospital. She went out to lunch with friends today and got violently ill and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. They've discovered problems with her kidney and colon and she's dehydrated. They're trying to hydrate her but she's not allowed to eat anything and this sounds stupid but she chain smokes and she's been in the hospital for 6 hours now and hasn't been able to smoke and she gets really shaky and agitated after only an hour or so without a cigarette. My dad and uncle are with her now but neither of them will take off work to stay with her tomorrow. They both say they can't but I mean my dad sells cars and my uncle installs flooring; I really don't see why they can't take the day off so their mother isn't alone and scared in the hospital all day. I really feel like someone should be there with her but Monday is super busy at my work and I've only been working there for a month or so. I'm not even officially hired yet, I feel like I should take off and be there for her tomorrow but I feel like it might put my job in jeopardy.

I'm sorry :-( Maybe you cant be there physically but could you give her calls throughout the day and reassure her that you are thinking of her and miss her? Such a tough situation.
That didn't even occur to me! I bet they did do something like that, if not I will suggest it tomorrow.
My dad and his brother are 2 of the most selfish people I've ever met. They will not take off.
My mom is going to go into work tomorrow and see if she has very much work to do and if not she's going to go up in the morning for awhile (note: this is her ex-husband's mother and she's willing to take off work and drive 3 hours round trip but my dad can't forgo selling cars for the day)
I'm going to work early and will leave as soon as possible b/c my mom has to be back here around 3.
Yes I'm definitely going to call her on my lunch break at the very least.
I'm so sorry, B$!
I know I'm late on this, but how is she doing?
