can anyone tell me exactly what the difference is
between the Ipad and a laptop? Can the IPAD act like a laptop? can you download pics to the ipad, can you print things from an ipad? Our laptop now is not working right and I thinks its time for a new one but not sure if we should get an Ipad instead. I really only use the laptop to do some online shopping, download pics from my camera, check my email and print couopons/emails. Would I be fine getting an IPAD? TIA!!
Re: can anyone tell me exactly what the difference is
I don't think an iPad can do what you want.
It doesn't have a USB connector, so you can't plug in a camera to download photos to it. It also has a really small hard drive, so you wouldn't be able to keep a lot of photos on it. You'd have to store them on a website somewhere and not keep them on a hard drive.
An iPad is basically a really big iPhone, so instead of being able to download programs like you would to a laptop, there has to be a special App to use it.
From what I understand (as I don't have one) is that to print, you either need a special wireless printer with specific software (AirPrint) or you have to have a computer that can print and you basically send something from your iPad to the computer, which sends it to the printer.
It would be fine for online shopping and email (as long as you're ok with the on-screen keyboard since there's no external option) but I don't think it could replace your laptop because of the photos and printing limitations.
Thank you. I will end up looking for a new laptop instead.
If you want to do anything with photos you will want a new laptop.
I have an ipad and actually its what we use all the time. It's easier to access, less wires, easier to charge etc. But I only mostly do web browsing and shopping online.
When it comes to photos, we store all our photos on our computer. It is just easier to edit. save and organize. Organizing photos on an ipad without owning a Mac is a bit of an aggravating thing. You have to drag and drop into different albums which is sometimes tricky and its a bit of a pain.
If you were going to invest in both a Macbook and an ipad i think that would be ideal, but if its one vs. the other- go for the laptop.
Also, amy is right, you can only print from your ipad with a wireless printer that is compatitable with your ipad and throguh an App. We don't have a wireless printer so we always have to email things on my ipad to myself then print it at work...
