Please talk to me about high chairs.
I think it's that time.
The high chair has always been my most despised piece of baby gear and I always planned to do one of those ones that attach to to the table.
Now I think we need a real one and as space is no longer an issue we might as well get a full size one. I saw a Peg Perego one on Craigslist and googled reviews.... which were not good. Until then I figured a highchair is a highchair, now I guess I need to put some thought into it.
So what have you got and would you recommend it? If you had a do over would you buy the same one or something different?
Re: Please talk to me about high chairs.
Hands down we love our stokke Tripp trapp. We travel with sometimes still. He uses it as a chair/booster now. I've sat on the thing a couple of times.
I might buy a second for no.2 he uses it that much.
We used this one:

I love it. It's easy to clean, easy to store if you are having a party or something, and it's easy to bring with you if you are going somewhere you need a high chair. It's not anything exciting, but it works fine.
Yes yes yes. We have this high chair and love it. You can attach it to any chair and it its small size makes it easy to take with you. Cover comes off and goes right in the wash and I like that you can take the tray off one handed if you are holding the baby/food/whatever (with the handle in the front). I bought a second used one off of CL for my mom's house.

We have this one too and love it.

We have this one too and I really like it, but sometimes I wish we had gone for the space saver. We'll probably get one at some point for the sake of traveling. We've used the Bumbo for that so far (with the tray), but Mr. Chunky Thighs won't fit into that much longer.
The Tripp trapp is built ergonomic but they make cushions if that's your concern. When he was little we had the baby seat added. We never needed a booster until now to make travel easier. We are actually buying the stokke one too.
They also make a tray we didn't use that though.
With DD1 we used the space saver one that others linked on here. If space is a premium Id highly suggest it.However, it is too large for our new kitchen chairs (you need an open back chair, otherwise the base is HUGE) so it was death defying and wobbly and I didnt like that it took up one of our regular chairs so we could only have one person sit with us at the table, so it now sits in our basement.
I researched regular high chairs for DD2 and we're planning to get either the fisher price one Jess mentioned or the Safety First AdjustTable. One element that I think is key, now that I have a toddler, is a high chair that can slide up and down (adjust height) and slide right under the table instead of using the attached tray to allow LO to sit with you at the table when they are older. This feature also allows you to "store" the highchair right at the table rather than hanging out randomly in the kitchen because it wont fit under the table top.
We have the space saver that JenD and Land0 have and I love love LOOVE it. Easily the best baby purchase we made. I do not have open back chairs, and it fits just fine on the chair (without a cushion). I have completely dismantled it to wash it multiple times with no problem. It's not the most easiest thing to travel with, but it is doable. Now that he is getting older, we are taking the tray off and sliding it up to the table for him to eat with us. I like the fact that it can be a booster seat when he gets older.
I'm also a little vain when it comes to decor. I don't have the exact same pattern as the one listed above, but it is similar. I like that it's really neutral and doesn't scream THERE IS A BABY IN THIS HOUSE!!!!!!!
Could I be missing a way to use this thing because no one else has my table issues!? Or maybe I have a difficult table because the base of the highchair hangs off the chairs making it wobbly and treacherous and the arms of the high chair are so high up that it wont slide under the table--it hits the side of the table instead so it pretty much hangs out in the middle of the room like a regular high chair would. If these things arent an issue for you I could see why youd like it. I agree that its less obnoxious decor than most other highchairs too and I really dont want to give it up, but its not working with my furniture!
Glad to hear everyone loves this. It's what I registered for because we don't have a ton of space and our chairs are already huge so I figured this would be perfect.
My little nuggets
Sometimes - depends on how messy your kid is. I suggest investing in a few wipeable bibs that have the little pockets at the bottom for maximum food collection.
Also, bad parent alert here - for the first few weeks, we would harness Jack up fully but food was getting mashed into the straps ( FYI - they are removable and washable) so now I just plop him in the chair without them because I put the tray on immediately. The cover comes off easily to wash but I really don't have to do it often.

Ok, I am going to try to post picutres, but my track record hasn't been so great doing this.
I looked at my chairs yesterday, and I noticed the backs are rounded out, so the space saver fits
As you can see in the picture, food does get back there. I need to clean that. Ew.
When we have company over, I will put his chair on an IKEA bar stool that is used for our desk, and I still feel like that fits comfortable. Maybe that has a longer then normal seat.
As far as pulling him up to the table, here is a picture of Hunter snacking yesterday (pardon his jacked up hair)
I tilt the arms all the way down so I can slide him up next to the table. It doesn't go completely under the table, but he gets close enough that he can reach.
