need advice for DH

my DH works in a corporate retail company in their commerical division. He has worked there for 7 years and has always been a faithful employee. He follows the rules and a straight line.

He has had issues in the past with his former boss becuase she didnt' do anything and he ended up anonymously reporting her.  He said she didn't do anything but sit around and she used to smoke cigarettes in the back room and call people stupid. She found out it was him or just assumed it was and started to cut his hours etc. He complained to HR and She ended up getting transferred someplace else 3 weeks ago.

Another week passed nad someone from loss prevention came in to interview my husband at work. they told him they had reports from a superior of suspicious behavior and loss prevention issues. He has NEVER stolen anything in his life. In fact, he ws involved in a investigation with the local police to help catch someone that was stealing over $35k worth of goods just earlier this year. He is constantly catching people stealing in the store and turning them over ot LP.

they asked him to be upfront and honest about anything he had taken and he came clean that one time he took two trashbags to clean out his car, and a $2 tip from some guy that kept slippoing it in his pocket even though he said he didn't want the stupid $2 numerous times. They kept asking him if he ever took anything biger than that, or was tempted to steal

They said they had to do further investigation and would get back to him. Nothing happened for 2 weeks and he didnt' ask any questions.

Today he went into work and they suspended him for the day with pay.

He has NO idea what he has done wrong. Like I said, he always tends to walk ont eh straight and narrow and has given a lot of years to this company and moved up the ranks. He thinks that his old boss said something that was untrue and reported him for something and they are investigating it.

I am paranoid he is going to lose his job. Which normally would be ok, we are ok financially even if he doesnt work (he is also a full time student) but this would be horrible as we are just in the process of getting our mortgage approved. If he loses his job we will lose financing on our new home!! and lose the house that took us two years to find....

plus, he is in school for business management and accounting so this could deter him from getting any further positions if there is a mark that he was involved in some loss preventation scandal at his work- this could effect his entire career.

Do you think at this point we need to hire a lawyer?

Sounds like a good idea to me.

You're probably right that his old boss is trying to get revenge and made some sort of report on him.

Something like this happened to my brother a long time ago.  He was the type to always do his job and get his work done.  Reported on another guy who was always goofing off, showed up late, etc.  Turned out this guy was good friends with one of the managers.  My brother came in the next day and was told his services were no longer needed.
