Must do/see in Antigua, St. Maarten, & St. Lucia

Hi all.  These are the ports of call on our upcoming cruise.  Any suggestions on excursions or things to do or see while on the islands?  We don't necessarily have to take the cruise line's excursions and are not adverse to exploring on our own (which is usually cheaper than the cruise line's).  Any suggestions will be appreciated.  Thanks.

Re: Must do/see in Antigua, St. Maarten, & St. Lucia

  • I don't know how much time you'll have, but we did one of those ziplining excursions in St. Lucia and it was AMAZING.  We loved it!
  • If you're up for an adventure, we did the Xtreme Circumnav and loved it!

    Copied this from my blog:

We booked the Xtreme Circumnav with Adventure Antigua, and it was totally worth the money! The website already gives you a great description so I won't rehash it here. I will, however, say a few things. First, we were getting pretty antsy waiting for them to pick us up to start the tour, but then we realized that they picked up a resort guest first. This put them a few minutes behind the scheduled time they told us originally, but it wasn't bad at all. Second, they have snorkel gear if you don't have your own. Third, if you are prone to motion sickness, DO NOT go on this tour. The Atlantic side of the island is very bumpy (8 ft swells when we were there). Fourth, this tour makes a stop at Sting Ray City, which is out in the middle of the Caribbean on a sand bar. The rays are VERY "friendly".

The crew was great, the water and snorkeling areas beautiful, the rock formations spectacular, and the boat ride awesome. If you choose this excursion, be prepared for an adventurous and memorable day.

  • take a $8 cab to Maho Beach in St Maarten and watch the jumbo jets land overhead.  The bar is really fun and has pretty reasonably priced food and drinks.  It was a really fun day.

Yes, if you have timedo this, it was amazing.

I do have two reviews ( including excursions ) from St. Lucia and one from Antigua in the link above my siggy pic. Also, there's a ton of pics. We stayed for 7 nights ( each island) so I'm not sure if the excursions we did would work for a cruise but its something you could check into.

We did this in St Maarten and it was really cool.  Antigua we did an island tour...Devil's Bridge was really cool and then went to Turner's Beach.  St. Lucia was one of our favorites and we did another island tour with Spencer Ambrose (he was awesome!) and then went to the beach next to the Pitons (can't remember the name of it).

  • I agree about ziplining in St. Lucia. It was a wonderful experience. Soufriere is down by the Pitons, and it's beautiful there as well.

  • As previous posters have said, you've GOT to go to Maho Beach in St. Maarten.  The beach is absolutely beautiful and seeing planes landing and taking off that close is amazing!  The bars are awesome and have really good drinks :)  I think the best time to be there is about 2 or 3 to see the big airliners.
  • We rented an ATV on St. Maarten and rode around the entire island before ending up at Maho beach for plane watching.  So much fun!
